A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

I watched the entire "movie" and I was surprised. I kind of knew it wasn't real, but I really couldn't tell. I spent more time thinking about the acting and the history presented than I did paying attention to the show. It was a strange show and some information was presented well and could be believable. Some information was not as well presented. All in all it was an interesting and fairly fun show to watch for entertainment purposes. I am not a reality TV fan (I live reality and like to watch television for entertainment) and found this show entertaining at the very least. I had a good time watching and even looked it up later.

This morning, my eight year old son aboard me excited, and explained me that the Mermaids really exist, because what some scientists said, in their preferred channel of science. The problem I have now is how to explain him that he was deceived. This will be painful for me and also for the the kid, for now, I will remove the channel from the decoder to avoid such kind of problems. You are not Orson Welles and this is not 1938, nobody becomes famous, cheating kids in these days. The problem is that in 1938 the people made many things that are no longer acceptable, as electric chock to psychiatric patients, the racial abuse and the irresponsible destruction of the environment, yet today this things are not acceptable and what before could lead a man to the fame, today might well take him to the ruin.

This film is along the lines of Animal Planet's earlier mockumentary "Dragons: A Fantasy Made Real." Those who enjoyed the Dragons film will enjoy this one most likely.Animal planet utilizes actors to tell a hypothetical story on a possible path of human evolution, centering around the aquatic ape theory. They throw in bits of unsolved history, such as the Bloop, with hypothetical theory that is still studied in some scientific circles today. One only needs to watch Elaine Morgan's TED talk on aquatic ape theory to see that it is still something talked about, all be it in small numbers, today. The "average" viewer will most likely not enjoy this film, for they're most likely to take it far more literal than what was intended. Watching it with an open mind is also not strongly advised, but rather watch it for what it is: a fun mockumentary that plays with the most fundamental of scientific and philosophical principals: Question everything.

I was certain that it was a fake until the middle of it. (Or at least an huge extrapolation of the facts). Then, the story was so appealing that I started to wonder why would Discovery Channel show a fake documentary. Maybe there was some true in it.From the middle on I decided that the fact that it couldn't be proved false was a much more interesting way of seeing it. All the ideas in the story were well developed and I loved the example of the Neanderthals. We shared the planet with them until very recently.Sad for being a misleading movie, though. Would have been better to explain it in the beginning.
