It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

Probably the only aspect of the movie worth some mention is the acting especially from Tiffany as scientist Sarah or David Labiosa as the bad Venezuelan colonel. Even Paul Logan did good. But all that sincerity for a story that failed them is unfortunate. How do piranhas detonate on impact?! They hit a house and go kaboom! How?! And there are more such scenes that don't make sense but it'd be a spoiler to reveal here. The effects although weak, is still OK for a shoestring budget. I saw this movie anyway since I just wanted to relax, not with an intention to watch good cinema. So if you happen to watch this on TV or DVD, focus more on your food, drinks or the feel of relaxation and you will do just fine :)

After a science experiment creates a series of rapidly-evolving piranhas is loosened upon Venezuela, a Special Forces team must stop them before they get to American soil eating their way through everything they can in the process. This one was a pretty typical Sci-Fi Channel creature feature, so this one has a ton of stuff to like about it. Among the best parts of this one is the film's rather big action scenes here, filled with plenty of high-energy scenes featuring the usual assortment of scenes here. There's the rather fun quicker encounters of the creatures launching attacks on the local's boat, a great battle with the Venezuelan soldiers against the creatures which quickly turns into a massive slaughter of the soldiers, a further salvage operation that gets wiped out by the creatures and a rather frantic chase scene in the jungle where the creatures take out the scientific expedition sent to study them which gets only more fun once it gets out of the jungle terrain as the scenes of them on the beach is quite fun. What makes all of these early scenes so enjoyable is that he fact that they're discovered and featured here quite early on, not only helping to deliver positives with the frantic pacing and full-on action but also brings about the rather impressive feat of making the authorities seem more logical and rational rather than the typical clueless authorities. As well, this furthers the main action along the later half here with some outstanding confrontations of the creatures attacking and chomping everything they can while the military tries to contain and destroy them resulting in the numerous creature attacks on submarines, boats, helicopters add then chewing through the city in a frantic city-wide destruction scenes that is highly enjoyable for its wide-spread sense of chaos and cheesy action. Added by the strong, fierce image of the creatures and frantic gore and bloodshed here, those are enough to hold off the few flaws. The biggest issue here is the rather lame storyline involving the general's attempts to track them down for his perception of their involvement in the situation. The rationale he uses to justify this makes no sense here as this simply screams like an excuse to turn him into a villain unnecessarily just to provide another obstacle to overcome. Not only that, but the fact that he continues going out of his way to get them results in some extreme measures that aren't questioned enough for what they've done. As well, there's also the usually-typical CGI for the creatures here which comes off rather lame trying to integrate the creatures into the scene or the action provided look goofy and unrealistic. These here are what hold this one down.Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Language and Brief Nudity.

The 4 stars I give to this movie are only for the fun factor as we had a great time watching it and making fun of it. The mistakes are too much to mention, the plot, dialog and characters are laughable and some scenes are just to bad to be funny, rather annoying. Some scenes are really over the top.I would like to mention the scene were the giant piranha's attack the US. The grow and grow and are as big as a submarine. They survive a nuclear explosion yet the hero and his SEAL buddies want to take them on using underwater guns that are build to shoot submarines??? Somehow this rocket-science idea fails and the hero (who only speaks monotone) goes to Miami to battle them at the beach. There they see the giant fish jumping out of the water wanting to eat a whole building and suiciding themselves. Sure...But at the beach he is attacked by some piranha's as big as small sharks. As the Van Damme clone he is he kicks them while sitting on the ground. Not one, but a dozen. After he kicks off the piranhasoccerteam, he keeps sitting on the beach talking with his back turned to the water as if there was not a chance he will be attacked.I also would like to mention the many movie mistakes, like the Venzuelan army flying US choppers, the US sub that in the next shot turns into a Russian sub, the US destroyer that is first showed as stock footage of the landing ship and then turns into an Iowa battleship. The car chase that features 2 groups of people that seem to be changing cars during the middle of the chase. The hero drives 3 different cars and the bad guys first drive a brand new SUV then the next shot it turns 10 years old.In short order, a real Syfy-channel classic!

I haven't laughed so much for a long time. Giant piranhas which throw themselves out of the water onto buildings before exploding. Then there's the complete non existence of continuity. A road which was 3 lanes wide suddenly becomes a dirt track in a village, the village suddenly becomes jungle, and the jungle then becomes open land. Or how about a ship that changes from a salvage vessel into a battleship, and a crewman working a cardboard box with knobs and buttons being twiddled feverishly! I love the Captain with the long hair and suggestion of a ponytail, or the submarine which has a periscope made from the tube that carpets are wound on. Honestly it is so ridiculously awful, you have to watch it!
