Too much of everything

Good concept, poorly executed.

Entertaining from beginning to end, it maintains the spirit of the franchise while establishing it's own seal with a fun cast

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

I don't get why some reviewers feel they have this duty to review every film like it's up for a best picture nomination. This is a very well done science fiction comedy that moves well (run time about 90mins) and is well acted. Loads of familiar faces in the film so that usually helps a movie find an audience on Netflix/Amz/Hulu. It has its usual comedy pratfalls but overall it's a cute flick that you will have no issues enjoying with your family....I mean Hollywood should have room for films like these too. It wasn't always about comic book franchises and animation studios.

I have had this movie a while and watched it with my two son's, twice in two days. It is hilarious for both me and my two boys. The story line is very interesting and fun to watch the "dave" ship go about their mission. We had some great family time with this movie and is now a personal cult classic in my home! Not sure what else to write but for a family movie you cannot go wrong. I tried to find a Eddie Murphy fan page to share my review but it seems you have to pay money with all the so called fan pages on the net. Anyway, thanks to the writers, cast and crew for a great movie!! 'd love to get a autographed photo of Eddie Murphy for my two boys, they are young and think he is hilarious! Although they only know him as "Dave" haha.

A spaceship shaped like a human lands face first on Liberty Island. Its crew is looking for an orb sent from its planet to extract the oceans' salt, which will ruin Earth. The orb is in the possession of Josh, the fifth-grade son of a single mom whose car strikes the alien spaceship and cripples its power supply. The crew have 48 hours to recover the orb, throw it in the Atlantic, and leave Earth. Over the course of two days, the ship's crew experiences chaos and emotion in New York....So the story doesn't really add up to much, but the amount of physical comedy he does here is brilliant, and shows that he doesn't have to play multiple characters to get the laughs. But at the time when this was released (and still now, everything that Murphy released was panned globally, and flopped like nobodies business. But luckily, I have my own brain, and don't jump on the bandwagon, so I enjoyed for what it is, a silly kids film with plenty of things to smile at, even though I only laughed once.So it won't garner Murphy any new fans, but please, it's really quite endearing if you watch it without the criticism.

A friend once said to me, of "Death to Smoochy", "It's not a great movie, but there's nothing wrong with enjoying it." The same can be said of "Meet Dave". It's not an extraordinary, timeless work of art, but it is undeniably enjoyable. And, occasionally, it might actually touch your heart. And, at long last, I feel like I've once again gotten a taste of the Eddie Murphy I came to know and love from when he first plied his wares on Saturday Night Live.In a nutshell, it's a boffo sci-fi comedy, with a lot of the usual premise and plot elements. It's a kind of over-the-top, glitzy, "Brother from Another Planet," and it refuses to take itself seriously. There are certainly better flicks out there, but I honestly don't feel inclined to steer you away from this one. Check it out.
