May Audience Reviews

Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
CommentsXp Best movie ever!
Odelecol Pretty good movie overall. First half was nothing special but it got better as it went along.
Candida It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
lojitsu A-Z Horror Movie of the Day..."May" (R - 2002 - US)Sub-Genre: Psycho/GoreMy Score: 7.8Cast=6 Acting=8 Plot=7 Ending=9 Story=8 Scare=8 Jump=6 F/X=8 Psycho=10 Gore=8A lonely young woman traumatized by a difficult childhood, and her increasingly desperate attempts to connect with the people around her."So, are we like best friends now that you've seen what's in my freezer?" She really pushed that Pretty to Crazy ratio to the limit!! It started off slow and was just plain weird. Once the case broke, so did May. It was at this point that the violence ensued and the movie hit a whole other level!! When you watch this one...just remember, If you can't find a friend, make one!!!
tthomaslew76-234-269609 I have to say, I'm not gonna write a description of the movie or anything like that. If you've gotten this far, you already know about all that or you can read another review. But what I will say is this, I was presently SURPRISED! Most horror flicks have NO developed plots. Or the story is half-assed and too unrealistic. And the acting is usually sub-par with NO character development. Or the director gets too interested in pleasing lovers of gore and shocking the audience. Or camera work and style production takes too much of a role instead of fortified substance."May", does NOT suffer from any of those prototypical flaws that behoove horror/gore films. The young actress who plays her has depth in emotion, facial expression and even control of her voice. I CARED about her character and to me, that's one of the BASIC fundamentals in making ANY kind of decent movie!I will say this, it's not perfect, but it is a VERY effective character study of the extremes people will go to to battle loneliness and how untreated social dysfunction can morph into full blown psychosis!I would consider this a GREAT film considering it's genre. And coming from a black dude who never watches this type stuff that's saying something! I give it an 8 out of 10. Enjoy!
SnoopyStyle May Dove Canady (Angela Bettis) was friendless as a child. Her lazy eye forced her to wear an eye patch. Her mother gave her Suzie the doll telling her that she could make her own friends. As an adult, she gets her eye fixed and tries awkwardly to be more social with Adam Stubbs (Jeremy Sisto). She's fascinated with his hands. Her Lesbian coworker Polly (Anna Faris) is attracted to her. She feels let down by both of them. The kids at her school destroy her doll Suzie. She decides to make her own friend sewing together various parts. It's a fascinating character in a horror indie. This is better than most of the low budget horror that gets made. It all boils down to the character and the performance from Bettis. The rest of the cast are also terrific. It's not a scary horror but it is a disturbed character study.
Harry Waterman A wonderfully dark and playful horror flick, May lives in the same weird vein as American Mary and Ginger Snaps, two other woman-lead wonders of the horror genre that focus primarily on femininity and exposing a certain mythos that connects vanity, self-love and loathing, sex, death and gore. Certainly smarter and more self-aware than it would like to admit, May is worth a watch or two. It isn't necessarily scary, but it leaves a mark. Some viewers might find whilst watching the film that the gore goes a little over-the-top at times, but I found that this really balances out the often coldly sexual tone and meandering mood of the film that varies between seductive and terrifying.
