Love Liza Audience Reviews

Intcatinfo A Masterpiece!
Deanna There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.
Geraldine The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Billy Ollie Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
beebeedoo ...was Kathy Bates, "You had it all!" Otherwise, painstakingly sat through this just to see what the letter said. Depressing story of a man on a downward spiral. Highly unlikely there would be no mishaps while sucking gas fumes. Only if you love PSH should you watch this movie.
Joseph Sylvers Great character study, carried by Philip Seymor Hoffman. A man's wife suddenly kills herself, and distraught he in turn begins a self destructive lifestyle of huffing gasoline. In order to explain why he's carrying gas around with him, he lies and says it's for remote controlled air planes. After a gas attendant finally calls him on it, he begins a bender/mental collapse induced mission to find a remote control plane competition. Slow paced, but rewarding, and sincere. Though bleak at times it's one of the most emotionally rich looks at grief, I've ever seen in a film. Or wanted to see, for that matter, because the subject disinterested me from the word go. Anway it's a great thing to be proved wrong sometimes.
Kate34 I've seen Love Liza over a dozen times, and each time I watch it, I laugh. No, it's not a comedy, but I would definitely call it a dark one.The story is about a man whose wife has committed suicide, and we meet as he is in mourning. He cannot sleep in his own bed, but instead curls up on a blanket on the floor. One night he pulls an extra pillow off his bed to find the suicide note left by his recently departed wife. Yes, all of this is sad, but then we get into how he deals with this note. He escapes by huffing gas.Now comes the funny part. Gas alone doesn't cut it, as he discovers a better high with model airplane fuel, and so his wild adventure begins in the world of model racing.Mr. Hoffman portrays this role with so many layers. We see him as the mourning widower, the gas huffing goof ball, and get a glimpse of who he was before his wife's death, a hotshot graphics designer. This film shows us that even when life becomes too painful to bear, we can always find a reason to laugh before we have to face the pain.
Nick Jensen Fantastic. I saw this film at Sundance a long time ago and recently rented it. I forgot just how much I enjoyed this film. I like the way the film moves through time and space without any over-arching plot contrivance. It is simple and sad and fantastically written and acted.PSH is a great actor and I have yet to see him in a film that is bad. I just rented Boogie Nights again and he was unbelievable in it. He is truly one of my favorite actors. This film goes down on my all time favorite list alongside films like Downhill Racer, The Taste of Cherry, The Brown Bunny and the Parallax View.
