This movie is even funnier than the book! My favorite quote from the movie is "Jane Austen got it all wrong." So many of the characters have been very tweaked to be the polar opposite of their literary characters, which is a wonderful surprise and very funny.

Londoner Amanda Price (Jemima Rooper) is a fanatic for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. She reads it over and over again. The modern world is unsatisfying. Her uncouth boyfriend drunkenly proposes to her. Elizabeth Bennet walks through a hidden door traveling from the Austen literary world into Amanda's bathroom. At the second time, Amanda walks through the door while Elizabeth stays behind and the door gets locked. Amanda pretends to be Elizabeth's friend as the story of Pride and Prejudice unfolds. The story goes wrong and Amanda struggles to set things right.Jemima Rooper is a great brassy fish out of water. She's a terrific comedic actress. I don't think this is only for fans of Pride and Prejudice. Although a passing knowledge of the characters would be helpful. A deep fandom may actually hinder enjoyment because this is more like an alternate universe. It's great to have a Hex reunion with Christina Cole. I would have liked to have Elizabeth stay in the entire story especially if she's played by Gemma Arterton. This is a fun romp for fans of all kinds.

I have never submitted a review for IMDb before, but i made an account especially for this film because I am almost angry at how bad this film is. The characters are terrible, unbelievable and the acting is a joke (and I hardly ever think about whether acting is 'good' or 'bad', but it was so bad I noticed it here). The main character is just so uninspiring, a dead fish on a stick could do a better job. There is absolutely ZERO chemistry between any of the love interests. What connected Darcy and Elizabeth was their intelligence and sense of humour, but none of this is found in the conversations between Darcy and his new love interest. The audience is left dumbfounded as to why they have a connection. The magic of Pride and Prejudice, and other period dramas is the subtly of the suspense, and of the discourse and wit of the characters, and absolutely non of that is achieved here. Why even bother making a mini-series about P&P if you can't even retain a sliver of these aspects. I feel like the whole story line is just a random chain of events that is really dull, and I do not care about any of the characters. I am usually pretty easy to please but during some scenes I actually feel furious at how bad they are. Hate is a strong word but I think I can definitely say that I hate this mini-series, I hate it more than anything I have ever watched.

Abominable. I regret ever having watched this, I only did it out of curiosity. It is so twisted that even the very soul of P&P has been lost.There was nothing to love about Darcy in this movie -- the movie never showed the goodness in his character and his heart, he just fell in love with Amanda even though he despised her. DUH? He neither helped Lydia nor Jane, and worse, he proposed to Caroline Bingley, who was, in the movie, a lesbian! And I cringe at the cheap imitation of the lake scene. Elizabeth Bennet was totally out of the movie, except in the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of the movie. And there are worse things... Jane got married to Collins. Their marriage made a drunkard out of Charles Bingley who eloped with Lydia and almost killed Mr. Bennet. And the good guy is Wickham! The movie had Georgiana confessing that she made up the story about the planned elopement and Wickham was the one helping Amanda all throughout in the movie.I was actually half expecting Amanda to end up with Wickham, or at least wake up from a bad dream. But she ends up with Darcy!Badly done! Badly done indeed.
