Absolutely Fantastic

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

King of Porn (1996) *** (out of 4)Director Jeff Krulik goes to the home of former Library of Congress official Ralph Whittington who shares his collection of porn items, which he happily explains will be going to MOMA at the time of his death. Whittington takes us through his home where we see that porn videos, magazines and papers are in each and every room, on top of cabinets and inside of them as well. Whittington talks about why he has such a collection and what he plans on doing with it. KING OF PORN is certainly an interesting film as we get to see a collector who goes beyond just the movies but also seems to be OCD about how things are collecting and put together. To be fair, watching this movie today it doesn't seem as shocking or amazing that he has four hundred tapes in his collection. A quit look through various Facebook pages and you'll find people will collections well over a thousand. Still, this is an interesting interview and look at a collector of porn.
