The Worst Film Ever
Raetsonwe
Redundant and unnecessary.
ShangLuda
Admirable film.
Francene Odetta
It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.

Up until today I had only seen two Serbian films*, The Life and Death of a Porno Gang and A Serbian Film, both of which are very 'extreme' but also very good. Killer Mermaid (AKA Nymph) is a far more traditional horror, but nowhere near as impressive. The film features the criminally under-used cannibalistic siren of myth and legend for its monster, but fails to do the scaly terror justice, with a predictable plot, stock characters, poor acting, and weak special effects.Set in Montenegro, the film follows a group of friends who ignore the advice of a strange old man (played by Euro-cinema legend Franco Nero) and pay a visit to a small, supposedly deserted island fort, once used as a concentration camp by the Nazis. There they happen upon another strange old man who has been killing people and feeding them to a man-eating mermaid who lives down a well. With their inflatable dinghy sabotaged, the group must avoid the hook-wielding killer and the deadly fish-woman while trying to find a way off the island.Director Milan Todorovic delivers a fine looking film, with some nice cinematography (including some great aerial drone footage), good use of his location, and plenty of shots of his attractive female cast members in skimpy clothing. His handling of the story, however, leaves much to be desired, with too much padding and repetitive action frequently resulting in tedium. The film also fails to deliver on the gore front, with only a grisly beheading worthy of mention (the head removed with a length of spinal column attached). The final act, in which the surviving members square off against the siren is drawn out and unexciting.Based on this film, I think the Serbians should stick to the extreme stuff: they're better at it.*I tell a lie: I've just realised that I've also seen Zone of the Dead, another film by Todorovic, but had forgotten all about it because, according to my own review, it's crap.

For a movie called "Killer Mermaid" this has surprisingly very little mermaid action in it, it takes an hour before the promised killer mermaid action actually starts (unless you count the beginning teaser). In the first 30 minutes or so it still kept my interest a bit, a lot having to do with the beautiful Serbia Monetenegro landscape that I haven't really seen in a movie before. The characters also feels a little more three-dimensional than the usual 2d stereotypes that cheap creature features like this usually offers. Not that any of the characters are all that interesting tho and once the action does start in the second half the clichés starts piling up.The acting is okay although the accents get a little distracting from time to time and make the dialog sound unnatural for most of the cast. It's not the worst movie I've seen or anything but it's not particularly good either, if you're looking for a mermaid horror movie I suggest SHE CREATURE (2001) instead.

This film is rated 4.3 stars out of 10 and because of the low rating I was not expecting anything more than a cheaply done soft core half ass attempt at a horror movie. Well folks I've seen far worse rated at 7 stars and at this point I am putting far less faith in the ratings here or anywhere else. This flick is no blockbuster but it is definitely worth watching, it doesn't start out so hot but has a good horror story decent acting and it really picks up as it goes. This movie kinda reminds me of the old horror flicks with a heart touching ending we'd see at the drive in on weekends or midnight movie. As always I'm on the creature's side so I was rooting for the mermaid. LOL

I know what you're thinking. A movie about a killer mermaid, so it has to suck. That's the attitude I had when I sat down to watch this movie. However, it was very well done for what it was. They did a serious job on this film. The acting was pretty good, as was the story and the special effects. They spent about 30 mins of a 90 minute movie with character development, which is fine, because it made you at least get to know some of the characters. I'd recommend this movie, as long as you know it's not a blockbuster film. All I need is for a movie to be entertaining, and I thought that's what it was. I didn't look at my watch waiting for the movie to end. It was well done.I gave this film a 5-star rating because I really enjoyed it, and it was sooooo much better than I thought it would be. I thought this was going to be some stupid movie like Piranha 3DD or Varsity Blood. However, as I said, it was done in a serious way, and the people in this could act.
