The least we can say is that Kicking & Screaming is not Will Ferrell's best movie. But I could say luckily Will Ferrell is in this movie, just to attempt to save this comedy. I'm a fan of the dorkish Will Ferrell and that's the only reason I watched this movie. His facial expressions and nerdiness makes him a good comedian. I like Robert Duvall as well and was surprised that he played in this movie. The story is pretty lame but I didn't expect much from that side, but this was probably one of the worst 'soccer' (or football like we call it here) movies I ever saw. And that just because how they filmed the soccer scenes, completely ridiculous moves, things you will never see in any game, not even from the worst players ever. So luckily we had Will Ferrell, to make us laugh a couple of times, because the rest is seriously not worth mentioning.

Kicking and Screaming (2005): Dir: Jesse Dylan / Cast: Will Ferrell, Robert Duvall, Mike Ditka, Kate Walsh, Musetta Vander: Very funny sports comedy about the lifestyle we are brought up to live. Will Ferrell is disappointed when his son is bench sitting on his grandfather's team. When his son is traded to the Tigers Ferrell decides to coach so to spend more time with his son. Unfortunately it goes to his head as Ferrell stoops to juvenile antics including name calling the opposing team. Although formula in structure the setup establishes the competitive relationship between Ferrell and his father, which stemmed from years of humiliation. Director Jesse Dylan is aided by a conclusion that is more gratifying than most films of its kind. It is a well crafted film backed with great comic payoff by its leads. Ferrell is hilarious as a father coping with how he was raised and how it is affecting how he is raising his son. Robert Duvall as Ferrell's father is great in a more juvenile and funny turn. Mike Ditka makes a memorable appearance to assist Ferrell in coaching even though much of this footage is pretty straight forward. Kate Walsh is standard issue as Ferrell's wife. This is one of the better sports movies in a while and this one falls under sports comedy. Funnier than expected with a theme that regards heredity and what we pass on and how it affects future generations. Score: 8 ½ / 10

Will Farrell decides to coach his son's youth soccer team with mixed results in "Kicking & Screaming", an admittedly hilarious but somewhat mediocre family comedy which basically works best as a time-passer and nothing more. Robert Duvall (not quite sure why he is in here) is priceless as Farrell's win-at-all-costs father who ends up becoming the main antagonist as Farrell becomes obsessed with victories, soccer games, and coffee. Former Chicago Bears head coach Mike Ditka shows his screen persona as Duvall's hated neighbor who joins forces with Farrell and even dons his famous sweater and sunglasses from that memorable Super Bowl XX Shuffle team of 1985. Just not much material when all is said and done; the kids do nothing to help out the cause and Farrell ends up gobbling up the scenery trying to keep the sinking ship afloat. He is only minimally successful, much like the finished product. 2.5 out of 5 stars.

i really liked this movie its so awesome, especially byang song he's so funny. Its not just about soccer like the other movies, it contains funny scenes and really somehow i like the way the dad and son compete with each other. The song ZUMA ZUMA BAKA LA is so awesome during the game when they started playing soccer successfully, i really advise everybody to watch the movie especially people who like to watch family movies for kids and the parents. Will Ferrell ... Phil Weston Robert Duvall ... Buck Weston Mike Ditka ... Mike Ditka Kate Walsh ... Barbara Weston They are really great actors and their roles suits their personalities
