Kickassia Audience Reviews

Evengyny Thanks for the memories!
ActuallyGlimmer The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Abbigail Bush what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
Fleur Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.
sugarplum27 People are being far too harsh on this film! It is meant to be one big joke. Kickassia is movie written out of clichés that are present in the movies, shows and video games the people of TGWTG review.Costumes that are worse than the ones found at Spencer's, obviously simple solutions ignored in favor of more complicated plans, women who are competent suddenly turning into damsels in distress, these things are all in the movie. You think its a coincidence that these also happen to be things that The Critic rants about? They made a movie they would rip apart in their reviews, that's the joke! I saw it as basically one big wink to the fans.If you're looking for something that is Oscar worthy then maybe you shouldn't be looking for it in an online movie made to be silly!
WakenPayne I am a fan of the Nostalgia Critic as well as a few other reviewers - mainly the Cinema Snob. When I found out that the guy made famous for ranting about crap movies has made movies I naturally was intrigued. To Boldly Flee was brilliant, for a movie that premiered online it was amazing. Suburban Knights was just dumb fun despite some problems and they still kept me laughing. I didn't really like this one.The plot is that The Nostalgia Critic invades a micro-nation with his follow internet reviewers. As time goes on he becomes mad with power and people then fight him for control over the micro-nation. That's it, that's all this movie is.First of all, as dumb as something like Suburban Knights was, at least with that you had a motivation for these characters along with characters who mainly had a personality. Here, Nothing motivates the critic to do something so outrageous in the first place. Don't get me started on the fact that over half of these characters really do have absolutely no point to the story except filling positions of government for one newsreel - That's it.Not to mention this movie is almost laugh-less. I said ALMOST laugh-less, there were a few laughs in this film but they were nothing more than chuckles. I chuckled at the Critics gathering in a circle and chanting "We believe in Santa Christ" after the Critic shoots him among other moments. Not to mention the shaky-camera in the invasion scene is the worst. That along with the constant screaming was more of a build up to "Tell me this isn't what you're really doing?" as opposed to the scenes starting the action in other ones where that was effective build-up. It only makes me see Doug Walker as being hypocritical when you look at his votes for most annoying clichés.So would I recommend this movie? Only to the most loyal fans of Doug Walker. I mean he has created a very likable TV show if you like his sort of humour and also a movie buff, but here EVERY complaint you'll see him raise in reviews for other movies in this one. Forced unfunny celebrity cameos and unexplained story aspects galore.
Annawilliams247 Kickassia stars many contributors from the TGWTG website and popular online personalities. Fans or people familiar with these personalities will understand the in jokes and gags used in the film. To people who have never seen any online reviews or who are not familiar with the personalities the film will seem confusing and probably unfunny. The fans of the TGWTG crew will like this film as it delivers well in terms of fan service. I, myself am an avid watcher of web shows and I particularly like TGWTG, I am pleased to say that I enjoyed this film. I feel that a lot of effort was put into this production and it shows the fans that the contributors of the website do care and are appreciative of the support the fans have shown. I understand that it must have been very difficult to gather the contributors and meet up for a certain date ,place and time to film especially because many of them come from different countries (for e.g. Benzaie - France , Film Brain - Britain , Phelous - Canada etc ). A lot of the gags are silly but entertaining and there are references to past reviews and videos which is a nice little nod to the fans. It seems that most of the reviews on here for Kickassia seem to be critiquing Kickassia but treating it as a stand alone film when really it should be seen as an extended fan service type of video more than anything. It's target audience (fans) will love it but others who are unfamiliar with the aforementioned videos and reviews may not enjoy it. Also I think it is ridiculous that some reviewers on here are criticising the production values and quality of cameras etc, its a FREE online film, it is not a Hollywood blockbuster! Anyway I found it funny and entertaining and would certainly watch Kickassia again.
Kenny Farino First, you are most likely curious as to why this begins with the saying "this film is hardly a movie." That's because I consider movies to be entertaining and worth the investment of time, and "Kickassia" is neither. However, given my negative opinion about ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, the website where this special little piece of cinema comes from, I will not let that get in the way of making this review as fair as possible. However, let me also clarify: to ask reviewers not to criticize a movie on IMDb is a ridiculous notion - why would it be on IMDb if it was solely meant to be fan service and not an actual movie? It will be judged like any other movie, no exception. This review will also be split into several parts to break down the movie in a critical way:1. Story and Character: - It's incredibly flimsy. The story in Kickassia, although it was obviously not meant to be a masterpiece in cinema, is still seriously lacking. The basic gist is that cewebrity the Nostalgia Critic wants to take over a real micro-nation in Nevada, and wants to become its new leader. If you've read the review that this is in rebuttal to, then you already know the basic plot. However, while Grann-Bach is absolutely right in saying that it will leave no impact on its audience, this still doesn't forgive the fact that the plot is nonexistent. Some movies, you could argue, are character films (The Big Lebowski, Wayne's World), but you can't have a character film without characters. The biggest flaw of Kickassia is that the film is devoid of real personality; everybody is a cutout, one monotone personality distinguishing each person. Instead, we are presented with the personalities of every review show on the website, which is fine if there is actual character development, but what we get instead is a barrage of cultural references. You can't seriously expect somebody outside of the fan base to want to spend money on your DVD (and thus expand your audience) if the characters all have the distinct personality of sandpaper, right? Hardcore fans will know where the sandpaper comment came from.2. Comedy - I'm sorry, but there isn't a single joke in this movie that is original in any way. Most of them are either references taken from the multiple review shows on the website, or are directly taken from other movies, television shows, or comics. "Family Guy" does the same with its pop-culture references, and it is vilified for not having an original bone in its body as a result. This means the comedy is really weak, and the nonexistent acting capabilities painfully emphasize this. Newer fans will even be confused if they haven't watched every single show on Channel Awesome, so they will not know that "OF COURSE!" is actually a joke. Let me rebut another review by Lloyd Markham: "Hence much of the humor and enjoyment to be had relies exclusively on the audience[']s familiarity... each with their own styles, in-jokes, memes, continuity, etc." That's the problem, memes and in-jokes aren't funny to wide audiences. An in-joke may be funny to a certain group, but as soon as you try to explain it to a stranger, they won't understand what you're saying. The humor isn't helped by the plodding comedic timing where the writers take far too long with the punchline. The fence scene is a perfect example. Overall, the humor is bone dry and poorly timed.3. Technical Aspects - This portion of the film is the most shocking aspect, especially coming from a group of individuals who make their livings critiquing movies and are (supposedly) well-versed in making movies. This is not the case, as the continuity is nonexistent, the lighting is very poorly done, as it changes from scene to scene, and the overall presentation is not pleasing to the eyes in the slightest. To rebut Glenn-Bach's review where he says "hey were on a budget, they didn't have room for professional... lighting..., things get to be overly bright or dark, and there is grain in some bits) and the continuity can be all over the place", that is no excuse. There were films just as long as "Kickassia" that were made on a shoestring budget and in four days that were far superior, like Roger Corman's "Little Shop of Horrors." They pulled off a lot in four days with what they had, so there is no excuse to say everything is sub-par, and then just say "Oops, they were on a budget!" is unacceptable. Again, if the 'movie' is on IMDb, it is sold on DVD, and the 'actors' are also on IMDb, then it can be as mercilessly reviewed as the reviewers please because it calls itself a movie. The Verdict - "Kickassia" was horribly painful to watch, and I am honestly shocked that people would purchase this. The fans will be displeased with negative reviews, but the negative reviews are warranted when you make something as half-baked as "Kickassia."
