Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

Worth seeing just to witness how winsome it is.

A Grumpy Ole Bollywood story showing happy families starting on a positive note, followed by a tragedy being finally resolved in the climax is so prevalent since generations that we believe this is the story of every Indian family, the irony being: this is the story of every other family, not ours.Shakun Batra's Kapoor & Sons Since 1921 kills this myth and tells the story that is more ours than anyone else's. Kapoor & Sons is a story of a dysfunctional family living in the hills of Coonoor. A financially struggling Harsh Kapoor(Rajat Kapoor) living in a house with an unhappy wife Sunita(Ratna Pathak Shah) and heart patient but larger-than- life father(Rishi Kapoor) whose last wish is to have a full family photo being framed before his death.Harsh and Sunita have two sons: Rahul(Fawad Khan), the elder and perfect son who is a successful writer settled in UK and Arjun(Siddharth Malhotra), the younger son struggling on his own novel and surviving by doing different jobs in the States. Both Rahul and Arjun arrive home after learning that their Dadu has suffered from a cardiac arrest. This is where they both meet and become involved with the same girl Tia(Alia Bhatt), a freelancer taking care of an ancient property in the town and looking to sell it.The movie moves at a subtle pace giving us some beautiful and light moments until a moment when a web of secrets slowly start to unravel including a lie that threatens to tear the family apart. It gives you a feel-good vibe while keeping you attached with every character all through and giving a healthy dose of laughter induced frequently by the modern-age porn-loving Dadu and his antics. The performances of the whole cast are admirable. Rajat Kapoor as a man under the pressure of obligation to his family but unappreciated for his efforts is excellent. Ratna Pathak Shah as a faithful wife living in a burdened marriage and a proud mother is exemplary. Rishi Kapoor with his sarcastic one-liners is lovable. His interactions with his grandsons regarding porn is a treat to watch. Alia Bhatt is bubbly and beautiful at the same time. Siddarth Malhotra is the weakest link in the movie unable to transform himself from a cheated yet moved-on teenager to a distraught adult is unconvincing. But it is Fawad Khan who delivers a masterclass and holds the movie together as Rahul, the not-so-perfect son showing why he is a celebrated actor in Pakistan. Sukant Goel as Wasim also deserves a mention. The only flaw in the movie is the unraveling of the mysteries that you are confused, who is to blame and who is to be sympathized. All in all a decent byproduct by Shakun Batra who after his 'Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu' has made a mark with his mature narratives. The movie delivers a beautiful message that even if there are problems, one should never abandon his family.

Father had lied to his wife about his ongoing affair with a colleague, wife had lied to her younger son about giving his novel story to his elder brother, elder son had lied about his being gay. And the guy who haven't lied to anyone, was considered as a loser. Story of a family who was just staying together, instead of living. And there was a hidden flame between them which was sure to come out whenever the family got together for a party or even regular dinner. Rishi Kapoor's get up is amazing, initially he's unrecognizable. Dadu (Rishi) is the only common interest among all the family members. There's not a single unnecessary shot in the film, knitted beautifully and though it's 2:17 hours but never felt too long for a family drama.

Kapoor and sons movie is almost look alike real family as in high middle class Indian family. I really like the story of the movie it's a family drama. I am very big fan of Fawad khan i really like his acting in every movie and serial even in this movie also. Fawad khan had done very good job to his character. He is gay in this movie but you can't say that he is doing over acting because i have seen many Indian gay movie in that actor did not do fair job to his character or may be i am biased i don't know. Beside this movie is very great and i think everyone should watch this. Quarrel between the family how they resolve this quarrel how they put everything together little bit of romance with Alia Bhatt its nice movie.

Why I'm suggesting this? Or reviewing it at 2:00 p.m. late night? Because it's worth enjoying! I just loved Rishi Kapoor and Alia Bhatt being so adorable as old ~ young combo in the film. Rajat, Siddharth, Fawad are acceptable and perfectly matched. In every family, there are issues and fights. But family is the only place where you can be perfect in your imperfections. The film is like a food item which gives you not only its looks and taste but also the nutrients to have a healthy life. Music is soft, location is something which I love the most, and all the actors have done their best. It's one of those off beats of Bollywood which mustn't be missed by true cine lovers. You'll get fresh and fine after watching this!
