This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

Unshakable, witty and deeply felt, the film will be paying emotional dividends for a long, long time.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

After a sudden attack on the MI5, Johnny English (Rowan Atkinson), Britain's most confident yet unintelligent spy, becomes Britain's only spy.Others have commented that your enjoyment of this film will depend on whether or not you are a fan of Rowan Atkinson. As a spy parody, it is not that good, and comes nowhere near the level of "Spy hard" or "Austin Powers". But for an Atkinson film, it happens to be alright, at least as good if not better than his Mr. Bean character. The redeeming quality is the supporting cast. John Malkovich is always great, even when a role is beneath him. And Natalie Imbruglia? What a clever casting choice. I only know her as the singer of "Torn", but apparently she has a few more tricks up her sleeve.

Not even remotely funny.Rowan Atkinson should stick to playing Mr. Bean.Boring not funny action sequences. Not funny comedic scenes John Malkovich is pathetic as the villain.Natalie Imbruglia is hot.Everything else is not A disaster as far as spoof movies go.Don't let the fact that they made a sequel to this crap fool you.It is crap!! Avoid this if you have a sense of humor.Bla Bla.IMDb demands ten lines.

After all of the other agents in MI-7 are killed the British government calls upon the services of "Johnny English" (Rowan Atkinson) to investigate a case which their top spy was working on prior to his demise. Assisting him is his loyal backup "Bough" (Ben Miller) who is as adept in the secret agent business as Johnny English is incompetent. In any case, Johnny English's first assignment is to ensure that the newly polished Crown Jewels are kept safe and secure so that the Queen is able to inspect them. When they subsequently stolen Johnny English leaps in to action. Or in his case bumbles into it. Now rather than reveal any more of this movie and risk spoiling it for those who haven't seen it I will just say that although it was quite predictable and somewhat uneven it was still rather funny all the same. That said, while Ben Miller and Natalie Imbruglia (as "Lorna Campbell") certainly turned in credible performances, it was Rowan Atkinson who clearly carried this film in spite of the weaknesses mentioned earlier. In any case, I rate this movie as slightly above average.

Universal Pictures, StudioCanal and Working Title Films have created a fine spoof of 007, known as Johnny English. Rowan Atkinson, known for playing Mr. Bean, Blackadder and starring in a James Bond movie (Never Say Never Again) plays the lead role in this comedy. Johnny English is basically a fool who is upgraded to MI-7 intelligence duties after an explosion leaves the other agents dead. He is totally unqualified for the job, but always gets it done. Just as with his other roles, Rowan Atkinson plays this role finely with sharp wit. The supporting cast was rather well rounded. Ben Miller as Bough, the more sensible one, you have Natalie Imbruglia as INTERPOL Agent Lorna Campbell, though she is way out of the lead character's league, being rather well rounded on this project. Then you have John Malkovich as Pascal Sauvage, the jumped up Frenchman as they put it, with a horrible French accent meant for laughs.Released April 11, 2003 in the UK and July 18, 2003 in the US, this film is rated PG for comic nudity, some crude humor and language in the US. In the UK, it is rated PG for mild language and comic violence. I can say those ratings were deserved due to a couple of mild profanities and a few seconds seeing a man's bare backside which is played for laughs. To compare to Austin Powers, I would say this is superior due to it not being as crude in order to get laughs. Austin Powers took it a bit too far in some scenes, whereas this is cleaner and wittier. Don't get me wrong, Austin Powers, I find funny, but a little risqué sometimes, therefore taking away some of my enjoyment of the film.Johnny English is not a laugh until you're crying movie, but a clever, witty, sublime film for the family to enjoy! The DVD has some nice extras added, including making of, spy tips, etc. Presented in 1.85:1 widescreen with Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound! 8/10
