Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert Audience Reviews

JinRoz For all the hype it got I was expecting a lot more!
Curapedi I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.
BelSports This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.
Bluebell Alcock Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies
arlen-39716 I just started this on the DVR for a little Saturday morning background music and got totally wrapped up in it again! From the very opening I couldn't turn away and couldn't stop singing along. When I was little my parents went to see the show on Broadway and came back to Cincinnati and bought the album and played it around the house. I listened to it over and over and have known every word of it nearly all my life. Of course my first exposure that caused this kind of emotional attachment will always be MY favorite as is the case with these other reviewers. I only wish they would recognize that! With the original broadway cast being my first love, the 1973 movie adaptation was 'crap' to me at first. Over time I have learned to appreciate the differences and enjoy the movie whenever I could catch it. When this new adaption aired, I loved it from the start. Perhaps a little perspective and maturity will help these haters to appreciate this marvelous performance over time. I'm not sure why, maybe because the music is so damn good or maybe because I go back to my childhood when my father was alive and my mother didn't have dementia and I had no worries in the world, but this presentation makes me bawl so hard I can barely sing along with it. Does anyone else experience that?
amicallef It's hard to ruin great material - however, John Legend was not a good choice here. He can sing, sure - but he hasn't got the acting chops to pull this off, the role requires a stronger performer. Frankly - he looked a little lost of the time.
thomastrocco Finally got around to watching Jesus Christ Superstar Live. There were some highlights: Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas really captured the intensity and inner turmoil of the character, and it was clear he knew that Judas is the real star, not Jesus. Sara Bareilles has a very sweet voice, like Yvonne Elliman in the original, but she doesn't have the emotional range needed to pull it off. Norm Lewis was an impressive Caiaphas, with the voice, bearing, and stage presence needed. Finally, John Legend as Jesus... At first I was impressed with his decision to play Jesus as subdued, confused, lost, and passionless--as a counterpart to Judas. But it soon became clear that it was his limitations as a singer and actor that were the reasons for this portrayal.Watch if you can, without the numerous KFC commercials, but maybe watch the 1973 film instead.Final note: the multicultural casting, as in the 1973 film, is great, but in a film about the final days of Jesus--that upstart Jew who changed the world--the director couldn't cast even one Jewish actor/singer in a principal role?
alphonset The performances blew me away. Singing and acting were loaded with emotion that puts this production at the top. I am an opera fan and JC Superstar is very much in the genre of opera. My favorites are in order, Jesus, Judas, Caiaphas and Pilate. Everyone was good, but these performances stand out. I hope that this is released as a video for purchase. I would have given this a 10 except for the commercials. We recorded it. Therefore, we zipped through the commercials. Nevertheless, the interruption was frustrating.
