There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful

I'm afraid I don't have much patience for scriptless crap like this. It's so obvious that the producers thought throwing busty Amy Yip into a prison of relatively gorgeous women and adding a ghost plot was all they needed to get punters stampeding their way to the box office. Unfortunately, despite the appeal of another WIP (Women in Prison) film, this is so slow and stupid. The camera-work is inept, the special effects are goofy, and, though Yip is a tasty treat, she doesn't do much remotely erotic, anyway. With the exception of quality ghost films like "Encounters of the Spooky Kind" or "The Dead and the Deadly", these tryhard supernatural ventures bore me to tears. I suffered through this mess at a cinema. Only the film it played with, "A Bloody Fright", was worse.

Jailhouse Eros (1990) was an Amy Yip starring vehicle. She plays Chesty, an inmate inside a women's correctional facility. Unlike other jail houses, this one is haunted by a couple of ghosts (one's a good fairy and the other one is mean and nasty). The ghostly problem has gotten so bad that the female prisoners have banded together against the evil ghost. But the head guard has a plan. He'll bring in some professional tao priests who'll chase the spirits away. Can the "priest" do the job? Will the inmates keep on trying to kill one another? Is their a lot of pretty Chinese women wearing tight prison outfits? To find out you'll have to track down a copy of JAILHOUSE EROS.Stanley Fung stars as the head guard, Maria Cordero co-stars as a fellow inmate. If you love jail house movies or ghost films then you'll want to watch this movie. It has pretty ladies, low brow humor and ghostly fun.Highly recommended.
