I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

Each character in this movie — down to the smallest one — is an individual rather than a type, prone to spontaneous changes of mood and sometimes amusing outbursts of pettiness or ill humor.

This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows

"Jackass" was a famous and infamous MTV reality/comedy franchise that initially ran for 25 episodes over three seasons between 2000-2002. A sort-of spin-off of popular underground skateboarding magazine "Big Brother", the original series featured a gang of fearless (well... mostly fearless) performers engaging in broad, humorous and often dangerous (and disgusting) pranks, stunts and practical jokes... usually revolving around a painful or humiliating set of circumstances. However, a series of controversial events in which children and teens seriously hurt or even killed themselves trying to recreate stunts from the series and complaints from parents lead to MTV attempting to censor the show and restrict what the cast could do on air, causing some friction. That, coupled with the loss of a few cast members during the third season lead to the decision to end the series. However, a greater gamer was afoot for the entire "Jackass" crew. Because despite the show ending... something bigger was coming. That being a feature-length, Hard-R continuation in the form of "Jackass: The Movie." Released a few months after the series finale, the movie picks up right where it left off, with every major cast-member returning and the stakes raised thanks to the time and budget a feature-film afforded them. Stars Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Steve-O, Chris Pontius, Jason "Wee Man" Acuña, Preston Lacy, Dave England and Ehren McGhehey were back and better than ever! With far less restrictions thanks to the hard-R rating that would keep kids out of theaters, the entire film is filled to burst with things they certainly couldn't show on TV! And it is hilarious! It's hard to write a review of the film because much like the series, there's no plot or story. Just a collection of short 2-3 minute vignettes and segments revolving around a specific stunt or prank. These range from a hilarious opening in which a rental car is used for a demolition derby to a series of amusing pranks in which cast- member Chris Pontius portrays the character "Party Boy"- who likes to strip and dance in public settings to get a reaction out of baffled onlookers. The stand-outs here are a number of skits where the gang heads to Japan, which paid off two-fold. First, they didn't necessarily need to get waivers from the public so they wouldn't have to blur the faces of the crowds and you could see real public reactions you can't always get in America... and second, it provided a brilliant new setting for the gang! I won't spoil the many Japanese-set segments... but they are pure gold! It's very much a film for the fans of the series. It provides basically everything you could want, and then some. However, I am going to dock a few points for a few particular reasons. Mainly pertaining to some minor problems I have with the structure and the fact that this is also by far the weakest of the three theatrical films. I do think that upon re-watching "Jackass: The Movie", it doesn't quite hold up as much as it ought have. Being their first go-around without having to worry about censors... I think they didn't take it as far as they could have, and there are some minor issues with the editing and pacing. It just doesn't have the same manic flow or level of brilliant revulsion that the two sequels obtained. It's getting there... but it just isn't there quite yet.Still, if you're a fan of the series or even just like the concept, and you haven't seen it, I would definitely recommend "Jackass: The Movie." It's not the best of the franchise, but it's a solid installment and a great first stab at a theatrical release. Just be sure to have an iron stomach, because some of the stunts and the pranks I didn't mention above are just... icky. I give it a good 8 out of 10.

I'm giving it an 8, not because it's a good movie, but because it is one of the most entertaining films I've ever seen in my entire life. Before watching this movie, you've got to ask yourself : Do you enjoy crude, unintelligent, slapstick humor? For example, do you think a man getting run over by a buffalo herd is funny? Does idiots doing crazy **** and getting themselves half killed in the process amuse you? I understand that a lot of people will find this incredibly stupid and unfunny. Those people have no reason to watch this film.Although, the majority will find the sheer craziness of this film hilarious. Yes, I enjoy well thought out, intelligent humor but let's face it, sometimes we all just want to laugh at something completely ridiculous. And that's what Jackass is. Whether you're watching a an midget bar fight or a guy being assaulted by a goat whilst playing a trumpet, this film will keep you laughing throughout the entire 84 minutes. To what I say to you critics : Lay off. This wasn't supposed to a movie with great plot, outstanding acting(No acting is involved, it's all real) with great special effects and suspense. No, this film was supposed to be completely insane and ridiculous. And that it is. And it appeals to the majority of the public who enjoy this humor. In conclusion. This movie lacks plot, effects and is completely insane. And that's what will appeal to majority. Some of you will hate this film but a lot of you will laugh your ass off. Jackass : You've got to love it or hate it!

Appropriately labeled "dickhouse production," this is a movie version of the MTV show. "Jackass" had been in the news for encouraging viewers to try the stunts they see on television, resulting in injuries. The film version features even more dangerous stunts. The opening advises, "do not attempt any of the stunts you're about to see," but everyone knows someone who did this stuff anyway. We begin with Johnny Knoxville smashing up a rental and trying to return it to the dealer; something similar was done by Bob Barker on "Truth or Consequences". Jeff Tremaine takes Steve-O, Ban Margera, Chris Pontius and the rest to Japan for many of the stunts. The men shed their clothing and put their balls on the chopping block. Some of the skits are entertaining, but they venture into repulsive. The end result leaves a stench.** Jackass the Movie (10/21/02) Jeff Tremaine ~ Johnny Knoxville, Steve-O, Bam Margera, Chris Pontius

Ever see a movie called Idiocracy? A film that takes place in the future as we see what our society has become due to the lack of intelligence in film, television, doctor's direction in finding a cure for baldness vs. the cure for cancer, etc. I think Mike Judge had the show Jackass in mind when he wrote that film. Jackass was a show started on MTV that I don't know how, just became very popular. Apparently men hitting their nuts with random objects is very entertaining. But the other day I wanted to watch a movie and my boyfriend brought up Jackass, I decided to go for it, what do I have to loose? Now I knew what I signed up for, after all just look at the title. It starts with the opening credits as the guys are rolling into the set on a shopping cart with epic battle music playing which I have to admit I got a good kick out of, so I thought how bad could this be? Then they start getting hit with cement and are hitting and kicking each other, but I stood strong and held on tight for this movie and God help me, I survived.Johnny Knoxville and his group of friends get together to pull a bunch of gags that will make you gag. Just imagine a bunch of drunk frat boys that have too much time on their hands and can only think of their gentiles and behinds as the only answer to any prank.I tried, I really tried, I'm one of the most liberal people you will ever meet. My opinion is as long as it's not hurting anyone, let people do what they want. But I honestly just couldn't find this funny. The only thing I laughed at and felt so dirty laughing was when Johnny and his friends dressed up as the elderly and do random things like shoplift and go running down a hill in their wheel chair. Seeing the people's reactions was just priceless. Party Guy is kind of funny too, even though I had a bad experience a few years ago with someone who dressed up as Party Guy at a Halloween party. One of those things where it's funny to see it happen to someone else as long as it's not you. With Johnny and his friends just laughing maniacally at everything bad that happens to their friends, I just found it more annoying. I feel so bad and uptight saying this, but I have to say that nothing about this movie was enjoyable or entertaining. When I was watching it with my boyfriend, he wasn't laughing, I thought it was because I wasn't, but he said he couldn't laugh, that he found it funny in high school, but not so much now. I think maybe Jackass was just a trend that led up to those wonderful videos on youtube.People who harm animals or themselves for the sake of laughs is just stupid. I know this is the title, but it worries me that people find this show/movie amusing. It shows that our intelligence is decreasing and our attention span is the length of a peanut. I guarantee you that in 10 to 15 years, these guys are going to have a lot of problems and it's not going to be so funny then. I guess maybe either I'm not as liberal as I thought or I'm just too smart for this kind of humor.2/10
