Sadly Over-hyped
Ariella Broughton
It is neither dumb nor smart enough to be fun, and spends way too much time with its boring human characters.
Tymon Sutton
The acting is good, and the firecracker script has some excellent ideas.

It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...

Isle of Levant (1956) * (out of 4)This film was originally released in Switzerland where I'm sure it wasn't as controversial as it would have been when it was brought to America. In America it was narrated by E.V.H. Emmett and it centers on a man named Pierre who travels around Europe sketching various things. Eventually we get to a French resort where the people go around without any clothes on.ISLE OF LEVANT is basically a very long and very boring wannabe TravelTalks episode. If you're unfamiliar with that series, it was produced by MGM and James A. FitzPatrick traveled around to various locations and showed off its history. This here is basically a long travelogue for the first thirty-seven minutes and then we finally get to the island and the clothing comes off. This here is an early example of what's basically a nudie cutue picture. As was the case when these eventually made it big in America, we've got a B.S. "documentary" style but we know the real reason to watch this is for the nudity. We see the people running around, swimming and of course playing volley ball. The film is just downright boring, it takes forever to get to what you're wanting to see and it's certainly not very well-made.
