I happened upon this little gem of a documentary the other day on HBO, and simply couldn't turn it off. The story of Ingelore Herz Honigstein is an absolutely fresh perspective on WWII. It gives an interesting glimpse at how deaf people were treated before specialized education was as common as it is today. Additionally, her personal journey is itself extraordinary; yet the woman and the film have integrity so you never feel manipulated. It's simply told by the woman herself with wonderful visuals that include historical footage as well as reenactments. It only struck me half-way through that she was doing all the narration herself. How many times have you seen a deaf person tell his/her own story? What an incredible lady!
