flamesreborn Steven R. Monroe is a hack. He has gone on to direct some Hallmark-style Christmas TV movies in recent years, but before then he helmed the first two I Spit on Your Grave remake films. While the first is slightly better due to a tighter script with more compelling villains, the sequel stills manages to slam home the awfulness of sexual assault and rape. While many may consider the films rapesploitation, I would argue that the film doesn't flinch from the violent and sexual rape scenes as to sober the viewer and hammer in how awful and disgusting rape truly is. What makes the second film even scarier than the first is the topic of human-traffiking and how this woman is sedated in New York and wakes up in Bulgaria, not knowing how she got there. It felt like the rape and inciting kidnapping/captivity scenes take up more of the film than the first film's rape scenes did, as long as even they were. And while the terror and confusion and depravity are captivating and stomach-turning, the film's final act, where they victim is given all the power to get her vengeance, just doesn't hit as hard as it did in the first movie. All the genital torture and gory justice is here, it's just not as compelling. While the actress in Part 1 was convincing in her desperation and vindictiveness, the actress in Grave 2 only convinces in the agony of the first 2/3 of the movie. She is VERY convincing, even Oscar worthy. But she just doesn't convince as a revenge-seeking fatale. Overall, the movie is definitely worth a watch, especially for fans of the franchise, or this kind of movie. Just approach with caution if you're triggered by sexual assault or rape, and don't watch with a full stomach. I wish Steven R. Monroe would use his directing talent for more projects like this, not Christmas TV films. He would do well to do a VOD Hostel sequel or a Saw film.

Leofwine_draca A sequel to a remake of a video nasty doesn't sound like it's going to be a classic, and the straight-to-DVD I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE 2 is about as good as you'd expect it to be, i.e. not very. It's an unconnected sequel to the first film in which - once again - an attractive young woman is subjected to a horrific ordeal of rape and humiliation at the hands of a gang of thugs, before eventually enacting her revenge.I despise rape sequences in films and am always tempted to fast forward through them. They go on for an age here, with the whole of the first hour taken up with the lead's ordeal. It's just unpleasant, and has zero entertainment factor. The film has a cheaper look to it than the first, with British leads standing in for American characters and filming in Sofia, Bulgaria, which makes it look as depressing as you'd expect.Eventually, there's more extreme nastiness to come, but it feels tiresome and vindictive here. The film as a whole isn't as shocking or as disturbing as the first because you've come to expect it by now and it all feels very familiar and even the plot twists from the first are merely copied. The cast isn't too bad - Jemma Dallender already has form with the low budget British horror COMMUNITY, while Joe Absolom was once a bad guy on EASTENDERS - it's just that the pedestrian nature of the writing makes this a bore to watch.

Her sinister stares are so fake its not even funny . The first girl ( I forget her name ) in the first film was convincing as an angry - revenge seeking girl . -- This one was acting more like a possessed girl who should of been in one of those B horror films . Not good at all . ----- And the worst part ? I thought I had rented this off of ON DEMAND . My mistake -- I apparently bought this terrible film for $9.99 - Now its in my Life time saves . I am going to call Verizon and beg them to remove it from my list of purchases . I will pay them another $9.99 just to do that .

The Couchpotatoes It's for sure not a movie for people with a weak stomach. Raping and torturing for 90 minutes. With the raping parts I always have difficulty to watch because you can identify yourself in the victim and the pain and terror she is in, but with the torturing I have absolutely no problem even if this is really gore sometimes. They just got it coming and deserve every second of the torture. I guess it's like that with all those gory torture movies now, the victim part is always diffcult to watch but the revenge part is at least as brutal if not more but you can manage to watch it because you want them to suffer as much as possible. I thought the movie was really well done. The actors are all good and the storyline is good as well. Not a movie for everybody that's for sure, but never forget it's just a movie...
