If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

It is a whirlwind of delight --- attractive actors, stunning couture, spectacular sets and outrageous parties. It's a feast for the eyes. But what really makes this dramedy work is the acting.

There are certain unfortunate projects that get stalled for various reasons and then suddenly get pulled out of the forgotten hat when one of its leading actors turns into a big 'in-thing' delivering few major hits gaining all public and media attention. I LOVE NY is also one of those stuck projects now releasing in 2015 after almost 3 years of its completion and repeatedly announced release dates in 2013. Also as I can recall, I sometimes heard its title as I LOVE NEW YORK instead of I LOVE NEW YEAR in the past, but maybe it's a misconception caused due to some vaguely passed information.Anyway moving ahead, the storyline actually suits both New York and New Year in the title, as it revolves around an unintentional mistake made by a drunken man (Sunny) on a New Year's eve, entering an apartment with the same address in a different city (New York) with his key fitting into the door-lock without any problems. The apartment belongs to a girl (Kangna) who is waiting for her boyfriend and wishing to get engaged in the same evening celebrating a different new-year beginning of her lonely life.To be honest there is no problem as such in the basic idea to make a romantic comedy on the lines of many American rom-coms revolving around a particular unexpected incident happening between two strangers. Plus both the stars here (Sunny Deol &Kangna Ranuat) try to lift up the film decently without any signs of disinterest along with the fine cameos by Reema Lagoo, Prem Chopra and Maya Alagh. Though Navin Chowdhary as Kangna's boyfriend remains annoying due to his accent in particular, yet the performances are not the ones that disappoint quite surprisingly, but it's the writing, execution and a completely dull script progression that forces you to rate this film as strictly avoidable. For instance, the director duo remains confused between how to portray their key characters on screen, as either complete Americans or Indians living abroad with a Punjabi style. Moreover, is it always necessary to present Sunny Deol as a Punjabi? Because despite having all westerns living standards visible on the screen, as usual there is a Punjabi based song sung by him and friends in the beginning and a deliberately added fight scene too in the end as expected. The lazy, uninteresting background score keeps contributing to the unentertaining two hours throughout. And I was disgustingly shocked to hear an abusive Punjabi phrase used repeatedly in the backdrop saying 'Oh Tuhadi Bhain Di.......!" Logic goes for a toss in the writing department too when we see a wrong person catching the flight landing into New York, easily entering a different house with the same address and the girl changing her mind about her love-life so quickly in a meeting of just few hours. In short, the only merit of the film is its few good tracks including a remix of R. D. Burman's "Aaja Meri Jaan". But since music videos & film songs have been the forte of the director duo Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru since the late 90s, the soundtrack had to be good as per their set reputation in the trade. However I wish they had seriously worked on the film's script, concept and execution too just like they do in the picturisation of their impressive music videos and film songs.

Whatever comment it is, i just loved this movie. it just romantic comedy and it so nice to view this movie. I love Kangana Raut and also Sunny Deol. May be if there put in some action could be great. but anyway, i just loved to watch again and again. And of coz the songs was so nice and to be remembered. last few years not even one songs i cant remember and i don't know why.. only a few songs from Happy New Year, Bang Bang, Gabbar and rest of them just waste the time. And of coz i just loved this movie rather than Tanu Wed Manu Return, just waste time to watch this movie. But Kangana Raut still outstanding and Will see you soon Kangana Raut, the STAR will be reborn.

There is confusion among the small number of people who know about the film: whether the title of the film is "I Love New Year" or "I Love New York." If you are smart enough and web-savvy, you already know the answer (also apparent here on IMDb). For others, I will try to break it down.Randhir (Deol) is a professional from Chicago who is excited about his New Year's eve plan with his fiancée (Chatterjee). However, after a drunken bout he finds himself, for some illogical reason, on a flight to New York, and then in a stranger's apartment which, for another illogical reason, opens with HIS apartment's key. How convenient. That the stranger is Tikku (Ranaut), who is expecting to get laid with her long-time boyfriend Ishaan (Chowdhry) is another thing.Someone should give me a medal for I deduced this plot after tackling an all and all terribly directed drama. The first 20 minutes will silently try to tell you why the film was postponed for 2 years in the first place. But if you manage to survive, what follows is comparatively lighter and acceptable. Only till a certain point. After that, it again churns out rubbish. The jingly soundtrack demands you to laugh and acts as cholesterol to the unbelievable story's digestion. While the songs are not that bad, the best one of them is played for at least 30 minutes in the 140 minute-running time.Watching Sunny Deol fool around in a health center in Chicago is heartbreaking. The childish acts, adopted by each and every character in the film except Mr. Chopra are neither entertaining nor funny. What might make you laugh is the comedy of errors that happens twice/thrice in the film. The "irony of falling in love" is a nonsensical idea which may appeal only to lovebirds. I am declining from commenting on it.Ranaut utters the words "I love New Years" sometime in the film, but if I were Deol, I would have probably said "I love New York." So, as far as the film is concerned, it could be both, hence the acronym.BOTTOM LINE: I Love NY, basically, is like a slice of pie of which we mostly dig the part at the center. The crusts and the crumbs are fine, but what happens when they are burnt?VERDICT: 4 stars out of 10. Wait for DVD.Can be watched with a typical Indian family? YES

The film starts when Randhir(Sunny Deol), a wall street banker in Chicago, decides to get hitched. He gets drunk on new years eve and ends up in New York, where his friend was supposed to be thanks to the fact that domestic flights don't require visas and he was not in full senses. He tells the cab driver his address, and then gets dropped at the street name and house number he told the driver. Cities in America do have same street names sometimes.Anyways, he this happens to be Kangana's apartment, where her fiancé is just about to arrive. How does Sunny enter the apartment? What happens when Kangana's boyfriend comes? What will happen to Sunny's fiancée if he falls in love with Kangana? These are the questions which will be answered when u watch the film. Kangana's bf is a very arrogant guy who always discourages her. Anyways the entire movie is set in one night. The songs are good, the background music is nice and touches your heart. The film is shot well and looks quite fresh. Kangna does a good job at playing the innocent and naive Tikku, whose parents' death made her feel lonely. All the supporting actors - Prem Chopra, Reema Lagoo, international star Tanishtha Chatterjee, etc. do their job well, although they could have been given more screen time. After watching this film, I felt that Sunny should do more such roles because it suits him as he is a very soft and shy guy in real life as well. The film touches your heart and makes you wonder why it was delayed and why Kangana didn't want it to release- perhaps due to the fact that Deol surprisingly overshadows her. AFTER A LONG TIME A FILM HAS COME WHICH CAN BE ENJOYED WITH THE ENTIRE FAMILY. It also boasts of good one-liners. Overall, it really SURPRISED me and was WAY ABOVE MY EXPECTATIONS. PERFECT FOR A DATE!! GO WATCH IT BECAUSE THESE TYPE OF FILM ARE NOT MADE OFTEN in the masala loving bollywood, although the film could have been shorter.
