I Dreamed of Africa Audience Reviews

SpuffyWeb Sadly Over-hyped
Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
xianze I just loved it, I had low expectations but WOW, just filled my eyes with tears, you should see it if you haven't already, i Would like to say that this movie is in the same "class" like The Green Mile. The movie is about a women and her boy, the women meets a nice man and they decides to move to Africa and start a Ranch. The movie follows the story of their lifes, life and death, love and killing, how a different country can change you and give you strength for life. The film is filled with love, drama, poaching. wonderful music, wonderful climate, they have catched the "peace" of wild animals, open areas and.. yes everything. Its almost to good to explain with words. please see it yourself.
Parmdeep Jagdev Sadly, such a beautiful title demanded a good film but alas. we didn't dream of Africa.... Kuki's story is meant to move you... fill you with a deep understanding for her Passion for Africa.... As someone who was born and brought up in Kenya, I can understand anyone's passion for The breathtaking beauty of the African landscape.. the films flaws lie in its editing. there is a lot of chopping and changing. We don't get to sense her reason for loving land that is Africa to death even though it takes her husband and her son away from her. What we get is and image of a sad bitter and twisted colonial woman. The cinematography is below average and important scenes such as Paulo's funeral don't have the impact that they should have. Though enjoyable not the best and sadly won't be remembered as a great movie but a disaster that just faded away.....
Carl Abrams Having read all of the negative comments about this movie - and having just wasted a few hours of my life by watching it - I can pretty much say that they're ALL true. The scenery is great, but I think my wife said it all. During the windstorm scene, she remarked, "What a tough place to live. Why would they continue to want to live there?"Why did they continue to want to make this movie? 5 stars for scenery, 1/2 star for acting ability, which was SORELY lacking. This probably would have been a good book - something about perseverance in the face of tragedy and everything that nature throws at you - but for a movie to plod along like this without you ever really caring about the characters **Spoiler** such as when the husband is robbed - his emotion and her face as she held him were just NOT there.
george.schmidt I DREAMED OF AFRICA (2000) ** Kim Basinger, Vincent Perez, Eva Marie Saint, Liam Aiken, Garrett Strommen. `.While I Slept Through This Movie' could've been the title in parentheses afterwards: Basinger, in her first post-Oscar win role, is actually the best thing (outside the gorgeous vistas photographed on location), as Kuki Gallmann, an Italian woman whose life changes drastically when she is persuaded by her adventure seeking new husband to go live in South Africa winding up with many obstacles to overcome and tragedies to endure. Based on a true story (the 5 most ominous words in describing a movie) the film lags on and the foreshadowing is heavy handed. I never thought I'd say this about the ethereal Basinger but she looks plumb haggard in this pic, then again after 6 months in the bush (and we all know how painful THAT can be) I doubt you'd look like a day at the beach either.
