This is an astonishing documentary that will wring your heart while it bends your mind

The film creates a perfect balance between action and depth of basic needs, in the midst of an infertile atmosphere.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

First of all, this problem is really serious, women (and not only) are trafficked by the thousands each year. It is a very sad fact of life and this should be paid attention more closely by everyone, especially men who .. consume this kind of services. However, this movie/TV series, whatever it is a piece of crap. It takes a very serious problem and instead of treating it right, providing a story with a beginning and an end and maybe a believable one, it's filled up with stupid TV cliché's: the dad who does not believe his daughter when she says she's been raped by her uncle (and actually blames her), the dad who leaves home after his daughter is kidnapped in a foreign country (and pressures the mum to forget about the lost child and save their marriage), the victims who are so afraid of their captors they do not testify even after the longest time they are in the custody of authorities. This is a LIE!!! Except for hillbillies, have you actually heard of such a dad, who would not believe his daughter over her uncle, who would forget about a child, or how do you think trafficking networks are caught these days? Out of these two hours , half was full of cheap paper-back clichés. The worst of them all was the mother letting the bad guy know about her daughter's phone call by yelling hollow threats over to him (something about killing him when she finds him, very americano, I admit), although this would most certainly bring her daughter a death-sentence?! I mean, how stupid of a writer do you have to be not to realize what a big hole this is? I gave this a 6 because the issue at the heart of this is very tragic and unfortunately real, and because Robert Carlyle is his usual self, that is very good.

Given my line of work, this issue is something that I am very aware of. This film has strong performances and has one surprising twist (which I was not expecting - and I normally see these coming from a mile!). However, the most important point of this film is that it raises the issue - although to show the true deprivation is nigh impossible given this topic. Let's just say hell is would be considered mild. Hence, the topic can only ever be glossed over and be more of a decaffeinated version of reality. (For a slightly more gritty film on this topic, see 'The Jammed', if you can - it's an Australian Film). It is impossible to truly represent this crime. No one can make a film (legally anyway) that shows girls (and boys) being raped by 20+ men a day for money... Yet that is exactly what happens, day and night. This is no lie. I have seen the effects of this. As you read this, more than a few girls and boys in the world is experiencing that against their wishes. A head in the sand approach does not solve the problem. The only way to solve the problem is to get men to realize that five seconds of their fun should not come at the expense of degrading someone against their will. Are men really that shallow and inadequate? (Oh, yes I am a man!) Men, if you need, just go to the bathroom...Oh, and finally, to respond to the post by "e_pipersberg". Yawn. I wouldn't rate his post given that his sports predication was so way off as well. Seems he can't critique anything that comes close to being called accurate. Then again, maybe the topic was a little too close to the truth for him...

This LMN movie deserves credit for the subject matter, as does Mira Sorvino, for furthering a cause. Interesting, in the United States we do not always receive information like this on the evening news. It needs to be researched. There are several peripheral stories here, and not for the faint of heart. Filmed graphically, the stories in particular of Helena, Nadia and ICE agent (well-portrayed by Mira Sorvino) are juxtaposed here for maximum effect. The manner in which, throughout Eastern Europe,Mexico, Asia, and other areas, young women are collected, via the internet, dating or various other websites is interesting and frightening. Sergei ( well-portrayed by James Bond villain) Kaparov is effectively odious and powerful, the international black-market owner of brothels, shill corporations and websites to further his human trafficking profits, up to $250,000.00 per month as told by one victim, Helena. While this is a fictional account, upon research make no mistake that this story is but the tip of the iceberg. As Sorvino mentions, a twelve year old child can be sold on the black market for up to $1,000.000 per day, the most profitable criminal activity after drug-running and ammunition. Stark and sad, the story does not sugar-coat. Granted some of the ending violence is a bit clichéd, but the overall story is important and indelible.Performances by actress portraying Nadia, her father, Helena as well as Sorvino and Donald Sutherland and worth noting in this graphic film. Highly recommended. 9/10.

Thank you for your comments. I feel exactly the same. I have watched this movie last nite. It took me few ours as I needed to stop few times. I ended up at this website because I needed to see the actress as not real characters. I been raped my self and I feel like it was nothing compare to it. The movie shows how hard is to get this bustards because the people whom are into power are mostly males and they don't care as long there is no murder or big money involved. Don't get me wrong that I am trying to criticize guys, I have a great boyfriend my self however it feels like they don't find is as terrible. I got on the train today morning and I could see a number of potential child molesters, I swear and I know that nothing will ever happen to most of them. I don't know how to explain to myself that it was a movie and the real world is not that bad
