qmtv OK, in the past couple of weeks I've watched all Hellraiser movies from 1 to 8. Here's my evaluation. First I watched #3, this is a joke of a film, 3 stars at best. #4, another joke, 3 stars. #5 is unrelated to Hellraiser, but was a decent movie on its own, but overlong, 4 stars. #6 also unrelated to Hellraiser, and pure garbage, 1 star. #8, similar to #3, and again a joke.I then rewatched #1. I've seen this movie years ago. Watching it now, I see this is the best story, best acted, best fx. But it's not a perfect movie. Some acting and fx were garbage. 7 stars.Then I watched #2. I've seen this movie more than any other in the series, and I had thought it was the best, but it's not. It has more visuals, but the story is inferior to the first. The older I get, the more stories I want, and the visuals are not as important. There is some decent acting here, but most of the acting is garbage. And the dialogue is pure crap. It's worth checking out for the visuals. 7 stars, maybe 6. This is mostly for nostalgia. As a stand alone film, it may be only 5 stars.I then watched this movie. #7. After watching in order, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 1, and 2, #7 is probably the best sequel. But like #5 it is unrelated to Hellraiser, and because of some dumb decisions by the filmmakers I can only give it 5 stars.This is similar to #5 Inferno (decent) and #6 Hellseaker (garbage) in that it is a psychological horror but it has more and not as many boring sequences. The main actress Kari Wuhrer is also much better lead than the other actors in those movies. Paul Rhys as Winter was bland and his character needed more. Simon Kunz as Kari's boss was decent but boring. His scenes should have been cut. Pinhead was good, but not enough scenes or dialogue. Georgina Rylance was good as the dead girl hanged girl in the bathroom was great, but they should have cut her other scenes. All the other actors, cops, landlord, whatever, were all filler, all these scenes should have been cut.Excellent cinematography. Decent music, but not great. They should have used the similar themes from the first two movies.Some notable scenes in this movie are the dead hanging girl, great stuff. And the knife in the back in the bathroom, it went on a bit too long, but good work here. The scene where Kari opens the box, after watching a videotape where Georgina Rylance says "don't open the box", hooks and chains come out of the box and hook her head, and Pinhead shows up. This was great.The main problem with this movie is extended boring nonsense scenes. It also opens with a decent scene of a drug den, but not enough to make a bang. After watching a lot of films, I notice that if you want to make some impact in a film, start with something exciting, not a woman waking up in a drug den. That's interesting, but boring. Take a look at the first Hellraiser, that opens with Frank buying the box, then getting hooked. And so are we, what the hell is going on! Take a look at James Bond, they open with some wild things going on. Take a look at the original Star Trek, something is going on, there's a problem, now we need to solve it. In this film we get Kari waking up, then going to her boss's office to view a take of a cult. We'll maybe they should have opened with the video tape scene. I don't know, I'm not making the film. I'm just watching. Or, better they have Pinhead torturing some fool. Something.Another problem I found is even though Kari Wuhrer did a fine job, she's in 90% of the scenes. If they had more Pinhead, or Winter's backstory it would give some dynamics, some breathing room. If we only see Kari throughout the dynamics are lost.This film like #5 Inferno is in serious need of re-editing and losing about 15 to 20 minutes from its running time. As an unrelated Hellraiser movie the rating is a C, or 5 stars. If it cut the running time it could have been a decent B movie, B rating, 7 stars. If it added a decent opening, more torture and Pinhead horror, and a greater ending, it had enough filmmaking talent to maybe movie it up to B+, 8 stars.

trashgang The further we go into the Hellraiser franchise the further we do move away from the concept about Hell. This time it's up to a journalist to do some research about a gang called the 'Deaders' who can bring the death back alive. Of course they do it with the help of pinhead.But it's only at the end that pinhead arrives. We all do know by now what it means, a story that to be honest has nothing to do with Hellraiser, it always stands on it's own. Then in the middle of the flick you have an appearance of pinhead to keep you watch it and towards the end the chains come in as do pinhead. This entry is full of nudity even male full frontal a thing we are not used to see in a Hellraiser flick. There's no gore until pinhead arrives at the end. The red stuff is there now and then so on that part no probs but again the story isn't that weak at all but it doesn't has a Hellraiser feeling. Still a bitter franchise then we have seen with Friday the 13th or Halloween. Acting of Kari Wuhrer (Amy) above mediocre.Gore 1/5 Nudity 1,5/5 Effects 2/5 Story 2/5 Comedy 0/5

BA_Harrison Journalist Amy Klein (Kari Wuhrer) likes to live life on the edge, taking assignments that offer her danger and excitement; when she is given the opportunity to track down a bizarre cult in Romania, who are allegedly able to bring the dead back to life, she happily hops on the first plane from London to Bucharest (where, as it so happens, horror films can also be made on the cheap).Not long after her arrival, Amy tracks down the apartment of Marla (Georgina Rylance), one of the cult's members, where she finds the girl's dead body clutching a strange puzzle box. A video tape made by Marla warns Amy not to open the box, but the intrepid reporter doesn't listen and winds up having to face her demons (both metaphorically and literally)...Directed by Rick Bota, who also made Hellseeker (the previous film in the franchise), Deader is, for the most part, a confusing load of twaddle largely thanks to a script that was never originally intended to be part of the Hellraiser franchise, but which was adapted to accommodate the Lament Configuration, Pinhead and his Cenobite pals.To his credit, Bota does what he can with the resultant mess, actually managing to deliver a couple of surprisingly well-staged scenes—Amy trying to reach past Marla's corpse to get to a package, and Amy waking to discover that she has a knife buried in her back—but despite these memorable moments, some reasonable gore and a smattering of gratuitous nudity (including brief toplessness from Wuhrer), the film as a whole still continues the gradual downward slide for the series.4.5 out of 10, rounded up to 5 for IMDb.

Jackson Booth-Millard The first film is the best, the second film was disappointing, the third film was okay, the fourth film was okay, the fifth straight to DVD film was silly, and the sixth straight to DVD film was rubbish, I didn't have very high expectations for this seventh film in the series, even with the returning iconic villain. Basically from London investigative reporter Amy Klein (Kari Wuhrer) is sent to Bucharest, Romania for an assignment, she is shown a video tape where a ritual is being carried out on a woman, she is shot in the head at close range and is somehow resurrected back to life, the cult that did it call themselves "The Deaders". Amy has to investigate the origins of this video tape, she tracks down the address the VHS was to be returned to, and in an apartment building she finds a dead woman in the bathroom sitting on the toilet, and in her hand she is holding a puzzle box, the Lament Configuration. On her own she solves and opens this box and in consequence releases Pinhead (Doug Bradley), the leader of the Cenobites, but he does not want to cause her pain, he warns her of a coming danger. Amy continues with the investigation and follows the leads, and she tracks down the leader of the cult Winter LeMarchand (Paul Rhys), he is a descendant of the toymaker who designed and made the puzzle box, it still opens the portal to the dark world, he has the birthright to access the realm. He cannot open the box himself, he founded the Deaders to attract emotionally vulnerable people, murder them and resurrect them in the hope of creating someone who can open the box, and he kills Amy. Killing Amy and bringing her back to life causes her to relive her experience in the past of childhood abuse, but coming back to reality she opens the box and summons the Cenobites and leader Pinhead, they slaughter all the Deaders for their cheating of death, and rather than be taken by them Amy kills herself and causes the demons to disappear. Simon Kunz as Charles Richmond, Hustle's Marc Warren as Joey, Georgina Rylance as Marla and Daniel Chirea as Amy's Father. One again the story has developed more into a crime based tale, but at least there is a bit more of Pinhead and torture material to watch, it is a bit more worked out and interesting than the other two stories were, with the people who die and bring themselves back particularly, but it is still pretty trashy and cheap looking, and you just know all in all it is a terrible horror mystery thriller. Adequate!
