filippaberry84 I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

philipposathina Another great - for its genre- french film. Like all good comedies it doesn't lack realism -even though some excessive elements are there too- and its intrigue is compelling enough to keep the viewer's strong interest from the very start to its end. What i mean is that this movie, being a comedy, is allowed to base its story on certain unreal background factors not having to fully explain or take that serious certain details of its script. And of course the viewer in turn shouldn't bother to analyze how f.ex, far as this very film is concerned, one is so easily supposed to that perfectly be able to stage fake situations -making them look real- in order to influence people's minds about their love choices! Yet, unrealistic elements are always part of a comedy film if only they serve as background of the main story-line, Just like in a science fiction story a lot it is about is fiction and given this the realism of the main story is separately to check out. Given all this, I would have given ten -bright- stars to this brilliant film and to its intriguing main story-line if its very ending was not that Hollywood typical cliché like, which i think takes away a part of the film's otherwise sincere approach to the situation it describes, given of course the genre it belongs to.Yet this is not enough to spoil the overall good vibes it gives.

MartinHafer "Heartbreaker" is worth seeing. However, it's also very frustrating to watch because the film starts off wonderfully and through the course of the film it just sort of fizzles. It's a real shame as the first 10 minutes is magical!The film starts with a man and woman on vacation in Egypt. However, they don't seem very compatible and soon she is being wooed by a very nice stranger. Then you learn that the stranger is not there by accident. He and his partners make up a strange service--one that helps break up toxic relationships. In other words, parents or friends who KNOW you are in a bad relationship can pay these schemers to destroy the couple. However, these folks are NOT totally mercenary. They won't break up genuinely happy and healthy couples nor will they break folks up for ridiculous reasons like race. So, the viewer actually LIKES the work these people do.Soon after this wonderful intro, a group of mob types announce that they service is inexplicably heavily in debt--and they must produce the money fast or else. So, they take a job from a nasty guy--and their commitment to their ethics is challenged. After all, the couple seem very happy, well-matched and decent. Can the breakup artist STILL do his job when given this sort of situation?Had the film been more episodic like the beginning and showed funny scenarios of breakups, it might have worked much better for me. Having the focus ONLY on this one couple with few problems was very problematic--as it became a bit dull AND the finale made zero sense at all. Nor did the friend that the lady had--as they seemed way too different in values and attitude to make it believable that they'd ever be friends. It's a shame, as the film did start off well and it does have some really nice moments scattered through the picture--but it just tried my attention span as it progressed and the film was a mild misfire.

The Squeerelist Alex, his sister and brother-in-law break up couples for a living. Their only rule is to operate only if the girl to save is unhappy whether she knows it or not. When Alex is hired to break up Juliette and Jonathan who apparently love each other, he has no choice but to accept in order to pay back his debt. He only has 10 days to break them up before their wedding. L'Arnacoeur is an entertaining movie. But it's a rom com so you obviously know from the start what will happen. There is no twist or surprise but I find it quite entertaining. It is not the plot of the decade but the cast meets my expectations. This movie has nothing to envy to Hollywood blockbusters. It keeps its promise. I think it's a challenge to get an art-house rom com if you also want to rock the box office. As an indie-enthusiast, I'd rather pick the underground love story nobody knows over the popular sparkly one. But L'Arnacoeur committed to selling tickets. Tim Johnson HeartBreaker is a wonderful film to watch; to spend an afternoon in a darkened theatre with a companion you love, one who is familiar with the beautiful places visited as backdrops to this engaging film. The people involved are all actors of effortless grace regarding their seemingly effortless immmersion in the modestly complex plot. This plot is something that would need to be worked out in a non-English culture: a culture for which the old tenants of behaviour still hold some sway. I cannot imagine any of what happened on the screen taking place in an English speaking country but perhaps that speaks more of my nativity than anything about the script. The two main actors, Romain Duris and Vanessa Paradis, play their roles consummately as does everybody else in this delightful film. The Set Director did a wonderful job by bringing the viewer virtually into the film because the sets and locations were so phenomenal. You owe it to yourself to see this film.
