Absolutely the worst movie.

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

My friend made me see this movie .. describing it as a sort of B-movie, low budget but very fun movie. Well, i am not sure about the B movie label, but it was indeed very enjoyable. While it is a kind of monster movie, it felt as much a monster movie as Shawn of the dead was a zombie movie.
The monsters were there .. but the focus was on the quirky characters and the very nice chemistry between each of them. They talked, they acted and reacted quite belieable .. while still being naturally funny. This movie is light hearted but not dumb. It breaks with the tropes in a clever and very enjoyable way ... i can fully recommend this movie (just do not expect to be scared or so ... its not that kind of movie)

Erin Island, off the coast of Ireland, was just a quiet, idyllic fisherman's spot away from the busy hustle and bustle of the Dublins, where everyone knows each other, with many sharing a shot or pint at the local pub. At the beginning of the film a male and female alien land in the ocean close to Erin, eventually washing ashore, looking to find humans as a source of blood and water, both of which are key to their survival and longevity. Arriving to Erin is a cute, perky, astute, and genially spirited Dublin officer, Lisa (Ruth Bradley, absolute charmer), on holiday, accepting a law enforcement post alongside perennial drunk, Ciarán (Richard Coyle). She is substituting for Ciarán's boss while he ferries with other island residents to the mainland for two weeks. Habitual drunk fisherman, Paddy (Lalor Roddy), cages the female alien in his lobster trap, himself attacked with it poisoned by the high content alcohol in his blood! Ahhh, yes, a vulnerability! The giant male alien comes looking for its mate, equipped with a tongue that whips around necks and even through victims, moving about with slimy tentacles, containing a circle mouth with shark fin teeth that can clean crunch off heads.Yep, booze is the answer to combating aliens...I love it! This film has so many things going right for it. The aliens are ugly, resembling a combination of sea creatures and the island setting, especially the beach and natural landscapes, is stunning. But the leads and additional cast (can't fail to mention Russell Tovey as the enthusiastic sea animal expert) launch this off the pad exponentially. The drunk pub gathering with all the remaining village folk in the hopes of saving them from the male alien and its hatchlings is a hoot! Bradley has her Weaver Aliens forklift moment, and Coyle must fend off the face hugging female alien...just two memorable scenes among many. There are severed heads, baby alien slugs slithering in the pub, dead whales ashore as foreshadowing, a woman jerked out of her home by the alien tongue through her chimney, Bradley hilariously drunk, Coyle and Tovey eyeing Bradley and clearly in their tone, little asides, and patterns of behavior competing for her, and the incredible special effects for the aliens...so much to recommend in this appealing sea creature comedy. Aims to please and has a cast that is talented enough to pull it off. The villagers accumulate seamlessly into the charms of the comedy. Serious sleeper. Especially amusing is seeing the leads aware of their chemistry, wishy washy about addressing their building feelings, and gradually falling for each other. Roddy steals every scene he's in.

Following the discovery of an alien species, a small island off the Irish coast finds themselves trapped with the creatures and using the realization that alcohol is poisonous to the creatures in order to combat them and find a way to get off the island alive. This here turned out to be quite the enjoyable and entertaining effort. A lot of this one's fun comes from the absurd concept at play, which is both strikingly original and a ton of fun overall. There's the main element at play here with this one centering on a quirky yet still fun-loving and goofy group out in the Irish coastline that makes for a truly easy time getting into this one with the rather funny jokes and goofy situations providing a great base upon the film for it to play it later during the invasion. The manner of which it's discovered about the probable manner of being able to beat the monsters off furthers this goofy and rather silly attitude quite well as there's a great deal of silly sight gags and goofy situations put into play here by utilizing this concept which really works well for the film. Still, like most good horror/comedies this one knows when to switch off the laughs and really bring out the suspense which is the case here since there's plenty of rather chilling and engaging confrontations with the creature starting with the opening attack on the boat in the middle of the storm as it takes out the crew one-by-one while remaining unseen due to the storm, the utterly chilling encounter at the farmhouse where it launches a series of attacks against the inhabitants and the rather fun search of the water-side caves where they discover the larger creature hiding out which are all quite fun and enjoyable scenes. As well, once the large creature arrives at the end and begins launching a series of fine attacks against the pub which makes for a series of intense and creepy encounters both with the full-size creature and the miniature ones wrecking havoc and forcing some rather fun means of defending them off which really sells this one quite well in delivering some solid and engaging action. That also extends into the final measure used to finish them off which is quite ingenious and rather exciting as well, making for a well-rounded finale. There's also the rather nice way in which this one manages to go about discovering the creatures and their abilities, which are quite logical and actually use some sound deductive reasoning rather than just jumping to conclusions in order to tell it's story. There's a lot of good work done here with how they operate and where they come from, making this one quite a nice discovery here. Along with a great-looking creature when it's on- screen and gets to let loose there's enough to like here that it does manage to hold up enough over the one lone flaw here. The film does seem to take a long time waiting to unleash the giant creature which really doesn't have a lot of screen-time anyway and it seems to somewhat falter in the pacing due to that, especially in the middle when it's all exposition about the creatures and the discovery of them. Still, it's the only thing here really holding this one back.Rated R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language and continuous consumption of alcohol.

The lead actress is a brilliant comedian - good laughs for 30 mins, so I really recommend the first act of this movie. The combination of performer, writer, director was sweet. After that it lost pace, and I ended up wondering why there was so much to go before the final conflict. The premise of weird sea creatures was always going to need some extra sauce, but using alcohol didn't make sense - although it did give some laughs.Overall the Irish charm is excellent, but the mix of dialogue and accents will puzzle an international audience.Production is good. Not sure about editing. Score is effective.
