A Major Disappointment

At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.

Like most, I was expecting decent at best from the movie Good Advice, and really the only reason I wanted to watch it was to kill time and had never really heard anything about it. However, in the end I was pretty blown away, considering my expectations were much lower than I received. Good Advice was actually a fantastic film. It was touching and beautiful in some ways, and there were even a few scenes where I literally could not stop laughing. I thought the performances were spot on for the roles the film had and everything just clicked really well altogether. This, in my opinion, would be filed under nothing but feel good fun, and it is totally a hidden gem, seeing as how it is not very popular and should be. It got a little boring and there were a few moments of mediocrity, but the plot scheme was wonderful, the characters were cool and lovable, and it is completely enjoyable from beginning to end, in my honest opinion. I loved it and thought it was truly an adventure, even though most big film snobs would probably snuff it in a heartbeat, seeing as how it was just meant for fun and nothing more. I do not know what more I can say about it, so see it for yourself if you can accept for the joy ride it is, for if you have not, you are surely missing out on an excellent movie, and if you never see it because you do not believe me and the other commenters, it's just a great big loss for you.

Charlie Sheen is so lovable as Ryan in this movie! This is one of his best movies, of course after the epic Major League and Hot Shots. He's plays well with Denise Richards, although she was painfully wrongfully cast as Cindy. His subsequent relationship with Page is much more entertaining. I enjoyed Page's secretary and all her one-liners and blatant innuendos directed at Ryan. Charlie played the fallen business man very well. I adored Rosanna Arquette and still maintain that she is the only talented one in that family. Her relationship with her plastic surgeon husband was so funny... perhaps even more funny than Charlie's desperation. This film is a must-rent!

If one stumbles across this movie they should watch it even if they never heard of it. Trying NOT to give to much away, I'll just mention the main plot which is: PLOT SPOILER:This was a light romantic comedy starring Charlie Sheen as Ryan, a rich, arrogant, playboy stockbroker who loses everything, when an enemy sets him up for a fall. His snobby superficial girlfriend Cindy, played by Denese Richards, Sheen's real life wife, isn't happy Ryan's no longer a big deal and leaves him. That's when things start to happen! Cindy is an advice columnist and not a very good one. When she takes off on Ryan(to Brazil) she also dumps the advice column-which Ryan(broke and needing money badly) takes over under Cindy's name-he also meets Cindy's co workers who include Angie Harmon as Page, Cindy's seemingly tough city girl yet vulnerable boss, and the biggest scene stealer in the movie IRIS!!!! hilariously played by Evelyn Harris(George from Seinfeld's mother?) who won't stop hitting on Ryan. Soon, "Cindy"y's column is the hottest thing in NYC, Ryan is becoming every woman's dream man as he discovers, through writing the column, what a jerk he used to be and he's falling in love with Page. But the trouble is just beginning...I REALLY liked this movie. Granted it's predictable as anything but it works. The chemistry between Sheen and Harmon is part of it. Angie Harmon is a great actress and portrays the tough yet sensitive big city working girl with flair. I've always been a fan of Charlie Sheen's and he doesn't disappoint in this. And the ensemble cast is great and make for constant hilarious one liners and plenty of kooky going ons.If someone has to have heavy deep "mystic river" type movies as a choice all the time they wont like this. If occasionally however one likes a good romantic comedy filed with two great leads with great chemistry, a non stop hilarious supporting cast set against the backdrop of NYC then this one's for you! 8 of 10.

It takes a lot for me to enjoy a romantic comedy I usually don't. But "Good Advice" is one of the few that I would recommend. It is funny! The whole movie too. This is so well written and directed that there is not a dull moment anywhere in it. The actors are ALL perfectly cast with Charlie Sheen, Denise Richards and Barry Newman especially so. What is really good about this film is that the writers concentrated on the humorous storyline about the lovelorn column deception and not pad it out with unneeded romantic scenes between the two main characters. The film reminds me of those type of "frothy" comedies they made in the 1960's (without the heavy sexual humor that this film has of course) and because of it's unique blend of comedy, light romance and pathos the makers ended up with a witty highly entertaining movie.
