It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

The film's masterful storytelling did its job. The message was clear. No need to overdo.

That's what comes to my mind thinking about "Girl in Gold Boots". It is an interesting double-standard, how a movie that partly tries to convince its audience through slightly dressed dancers teaches us about moral. Not that this wouldn't be perfectly achievable but this movie fails in doing so on many levels. We have the naive yet innocent small-town girl that dreams of becoming a star in Hollywood, the righteous yet poor hero and the oily, egocentric villain, the girl gone bad and the gangster boss. These characters are so predictable they could as well serve in an enlightenment comedy. You always know who's about to teach you the lesson. The plot itself is nothing new and probably good enough for a mediocre movie but unfortunately it's not the only unconvincing aspect.Side note: I'm very entertained that robbing a gas station and selling drugs is obviously less a big deal than refusing to serve in the troops. How fortunate that our hero made up his mind. America never fails to surprise me.Music plays quite a role in this film. Although I'm surely not the biggest fan of the soundtrack, I can still imagine that if you're into that kind of songs in general this could make up for some of the weaknesses. What's left to say? There are just so many other movies that really have a story to tell or at least tell this one better. I've seen worse, therefore I won't be down at one star here but there's probably something better you could invest time in.

Joy Division's Ian Curtis would often cause chaos at his concerts, because his dancing style closely resembled an epileptic seizure: bystanders would call 911 just to be on the safe side. I've never known how Curtis developed such a bizarre style, but I'm fairly certain he owned a copy of "Girl In Gold Boots". I also can't fathom why a woman that a) clearly can't dance, b) clearly can't act and c) isn't married to someone powerful would get cast as the lead of a musical, but one thing's for certain: this is about a dozen times as entertaining as a competent musical. The movie was produced and directed by prolific Z-grade horror/sci-fi legend Ted V. Mikels, who seems out of his comfort zone when he can't use zombies, evil witches or crazed serial killers who feed victims to cats. The movie doesn't have any plot, it just drags itself from one strange dance scene to another. But that's fine by me. Seeing our lead and her marginally less untalented co-star dance like they're on stilts never stops being entertaining. If anything, this movie should have more awkward dancing rather than less. Very palatable, for all the wrong reasons of course.

This movie I first saw via the MST3000 series, and have to admit, it's not the worst movie they ever have spoofed. However, I agree with the person who wrote about the movie being a combined story/plot. It starts out a bit fuzzy.....Buz's foiled attempts at robbing "Eat" were not clear to me until I'd seen the movie a few times.....and I wasn't sure exactly where the Critter guy fit in. After a few scenes, it started to piece itself together, and for a 1969 movie, wasn't all that bad......until the movie became less focused on Michele's dream to become a dancer, and more focused on Buz's drug-dealing. That's where the film splits in two. I was content with the first half, but bored to tears in the second. Of course, MST3000 certainly helped plod it along, and I probably wouldn't have watched the movie otherwise, but none-the-less.....I would say the movie had several different writers who couldn't agree on one story-line!

This movie stunk when I first watched it a few years ago, it stunk a few weeks ago, and it stinks now. Based on that pattern, we can project that "Girl in Gold Boots" will continue to stink for all time. It's not the worst movie I've ever seen. It has to be said (I can't believe I'm standing up for this movie AT ALL, but it really isn't). I believe that honor (?) goes to "Manos: The Hands of Fate", but that's for another angry IMDb commentary."Girl in Gold Boots" was devoid of redeeming qualities, stemming from the weak and senseless plot, atrocious acting, and ridiculous editing. To add, not only is it painfully campy, but the fact that it TRIES to be serious when it quite clearly is not makes it undeniably lame. There is just no point to it. I can't even begin to find one, because searching for purpose to this wreck would be completely hopeless and even more of a waste of time than the movie itself. It's bad. It's REAL bad. It's NOT the worst. (You'll have to go further on the Bottom 100 for the real contenders)MST3K gets yet another gold medal for this episode.
