Arianna Moses Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

Red-Barracuda Two young boys discover an alien spaceship, which they board and are then whisked away to a planet on the other side of the Sun where they encounter two female aliens who ultimately plan to eat their brains. Fortunately, Gamera, the children-loving, fire-breathing, flying giant turtle monster comes to the rescue.Attack of the Monsters is another in the mad series of Japanese monster movies from yesteryear. This one is a starring vehicle of the aforementioned Gamera. In this one he gets to battle a couple of other monsters, one of which is Guiron, a giant knife-headed evil creature. He is the servant of the two aliens and he makes for a fairly distinctive baddie. The fights between the monsters make up a fair bit of the run-time and they are basically more of the same you will have seen before if you've seen any other Japanese monster flicks. There is some recycled footage too from other entries in the Gamera series. It all gets a bit wearisome after a while, made considerably worse by the presence of the two rather annoying children at the centre of the story. Fun up to a point but mainly hard going.

OllieSuave-007 Campfest Gamera returns in this dozy of a movie where two boys stumble upon a flying saucer and ended up being flown to space. They are confronted by two women aliens who hypnotize the children so they would became rations for them later on. Throw in a knife-nosed space monster named Guiron, a little girl's pleas to the adults about the alien abduction, and a corny Officer named Cornjob into the mix and you have a Gamera flick that tips the cheese scale.Like the previous movie, this story utilizes the recycled alien-invasion plot. The special effects were pretty awful; the monster suits were not realistic or imaginative at all and the monster battle scenes were very campy (Gamera doing gymnastics on a high bar while fighting Guiron?!). And, the character development and substance were non-existent.Again, this film looks like an episode of a children's variety show. I know the filmmakers wanted to target the younger audience, but, at least, throw in some heroic and purposeful adult characters and make the plot elements sound at least believable (the lead kid characters want world peace and an end to traffic accidents?!).There are some scenes that are so bad, it's fun to watch, and, have to say some scenes of the aliens pursuing the kids were a little thrilling. Watch only if you like extreme camp and cheese factor. Grade D

mephotography2001 Where to start...I've seen a few Gamera films in the past, mostly being ridiculed on MST3K (and for good reason). The dialog was horrendous, the "special" effects were the helmet-wearing-tooth-guard-chomping-short-bus-riding kind of special, and I got to the point that I really hoped the space "aliens" (2 ladies in discarded original Star Trek alien costumes) would make good on their plan to eat the children. It was terrible, but I'm not a 10-year-old in 1960s Japan. That's the important thing to understand about Gamera movies: they were made for children, apparently because the Japanese don't believe in cartoons. America had Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny in the 60s, Japanese kids had a guy in a rubber sabretooth turtle suit. And there's no way Guiron isn't the inspiration for the Knifehead kaiju in "Pacific Rim".

sfstendebach Gamera 3: Awakening of Iris is by far the best Gamera movie. I also loved the original, but the most memorable Gamera movie has to be this one. It is the ultimate bad movie. Two kids board a space ship that flys them to another planet. Once there they see Guiron fight a Gyaos painted silver. We learn that Guiron is a watchdog that defends the aliens from Gyaos. The aliens are Asian girls that (this is so original) eat human BRAINS!!! Basically Guiron gets on the lose and GAMERA comes to save them. This is where the movie goes crazy. Did i mention that Guiron is a knife that shoots Shurikens out of his head?? It's awesome. So Gamers fights it, does some gymnastics, then brings the kids home. The kids are really annoying, but arnt the humans in kaiju movies always? It would actually be a decent kaiju without them, but the end fight is definitely worth it. I HIGHLY recommend to kaiju and bad movie fans.
