Gambit is a tepid and disappointing remake written by the Coen Brothers who have rendered it as a farce and an unfunny one at that.Harry Deane (Colin Firth) is an art curator for nasty businessman Lionel Shahbandar (Alan Rickman) who has a low opinion of Deane.Deane decides to cheat Shahbandar by getting his old art forger pal Major Wingate (Tom Courtenay) to fake a 'lost' Monet painting that has been discovered in a trailer in Texas. Deane recruits an accomplice from America PJ (Cameron Diaz) who is feisty and someone Deane becomes attracted to.Firth goes back to the default posh English repressed nerd that he used to play in the moderately budgeted US co-productions before he won his Best Actor Oscar. Now he has got an Oscar there was no need for him to appear in such a movie. I guess he wanted to work with the Coens and look like Michael Caine.

first, for be more than a simple remake. the second, for Cameron Diaz who gives more than the well known recipe of romantic comedies. and, sure, for Colin Firth, remembering Michael Caine in the version of 1966, but using his admirable art for a comedy preserving the flavor of classic films from "60- "70 decades. this is the secret for this admirable mix of irony and adventure.

Approx halfway through the film I realized what was nagging me that was all rather familiar?.... but of course!.... it was Inspector Clouseau (Colin Firth) getting punched on the nose 3 times, loosing his trousers, getting a glass jar stuck on his hand, getting stranded ten floors up on a window ledge, whilst Dreyfus (Alan Rickman) hated him and wanted rid of him at all costs. There was a woman in it too, Cameron Diaz, while Tom Courtenay kept popping in and out. But not a bad film.

Funny Movie that is Actually Funny; not because it was decided for us.Story, Acting, Directing, Editing, Settings, Audio, and etc... seamless ; as well as Excellent. What I liked was instead of the shotgun approach and clumsy attempts at making us laugh; Gambit was a comedy that didn't need to tell us what it was. You are allowed to be drawn into situations as they progress, drop your defenses for the typical comedy movie assault by Hollywood and just enjoy the movie. The main character has the preconceived notion of how this plan will work, then there's the real situations, and finally; all is well that ends well.Excellent movie that you will enjoy.
