Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

Like the great film, it's made with a great deal of visible affection both in front of and behind the camera.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.
Fleur
Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

Having read some IMDb reviews before I got my hands on the film itself, I was agreeably surprised watching it. In the canon of the director whose early works I admire, it definitely resides somewhere close to the bottom - but Roeg is always interesting, even at his lowest. Though the Australian DVD has no subtitles (which is always bad news for me because - as the reader of this already knows - my knowledge of English is quite limited), I was not bored for the most of the movie, and I believe that it has important things to say about life not only of rich Americans. A haiku ("Suddenly you light // and as suddenly go dark // fellow firefly") inserted (almost literally) between Mimi Rogers' breasts shouldn't be underestimated. Rogers is a gorgeous piece of a woman but the film really is not about her, or her breasts, or philosophical/mystical reflections - it's about human relations and mutual using/misusing in pursuit of happiness, self-fulfillment,etc., seen by Roeg under slightly satirical angle. (From this point of view, which I'm not sure of, the otherwise likable ending was a bit disappointing, tending to follow a rather sentimental line.)If I would be asked to recommend any of my colleagues' reviews, it would be dnjir' s.

I found this movie very strange. It certainly has appeal with the gorgeous Mimi Rogers showing every inch of body off, but the story get very confused. Rogers has a regular weekly appointment for a Massage in her home. One day she is surprised to learn that her regular Masseuse, Dennis has sent a replacement. The replacement, Brian Brown, proceeds to give Miss Rogers her massage and throughout the movie the two engage in some verbal sparing, finding that there is a connection but that there is also a strange friction between them. Mimi Rogers is gorgeous so if you are a fan of hers, you are certainly going to like this movie. If you are into the kind of movie that has some deep dialog, you will also probably like this movie. If your looking for a great story, this movie will disappoint you. I think this movie could have been perhaps a great movie if they concentrated on the relationship between these two opposites following the oft used opposites attract theme. I do recommend this movie simply because Mimi Rogers is too gorgeous to ignore.

A gallery owner is surprised when her home masseur sends a replacement, from whom she receives intellectual and spiritual, rather than sensual, treatment. Essentially a long conversation about art, life and relationships, broken up with the director's customarily intriguing montage, and in which the star bravely exposes herself physically as well as emotionally. Compelling viewing.

This movies plot is not a high point of the film. It is not as high drama as you would normally see. But, the continued showing of lead star Mimi Rogers totally nude body shall keep you watching. The movie constantly returns the Mimi's breasts, showing them for no real apparent reason than sexual appeal. For young men who like breasts, this is the movie to see. Low quality drama; high quality nudity and sexual appeal. Nice directing and camera angles.
