First Snow Audience Reviews

Hellen I like the storyline of this show,it attract me so much
Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Numerootno A story that's too fascinating to pass by...
AshUnow This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
morrison-dylan-fan Taking a look on the BBC iPlayer,I was surprised to spot a Neo-Noir starring Guy Pearce, which has never come out in the UK and is only on Region 1 import.Being impressed by Pearce's performance in the gritty The Rover and the dazzling Memento,I decided that I should step out into the snow. The plot:Since skilfully avoiding jail for money laundering whilst his friend Vince got put behind bars, salesman Jimmy Starks has been using all his slick skills to get ahead in life.Waiting for his car to get fixed,Starks decides to pass the time by getting his future read by fortune teller Vacaro. At first seeing riches in Starks life,Vacaro quickly pulls away when unsettling images suddenly appear.Pushed for info, the only thing Vacaro reveals to Starks is that he is safe until snow starts to fall.Fearful over the meaning of Vacaro's reading,Starks soon discovers to his horror that Vince has recently been released from jail,as the first snowdrops start to fall.View on the film:Making the first drops of snow his directing debut,co-writer/(along with Hawk Ostby) director Mark Fergus & cinematographer Eric Alan Edwards cast a rippling evil under the sun atmosphere across the screen, with layers of sunlight streaming out of curtains and peak holes stylishly revealing Starks inability to get away from the outside Neo-Noir darkness.Scattering snow for the Starks final sale,Fergus and Edwards cast an icy chill over the title,as grubby yellows and crystal blues unveil the Neo-Noir fate that Starks riches can't cover.Slowly sweeping the snow away from Starks past, the screenplay by Ostby and Fergus surround Starks in a melting supernatural Neo-Noir nightmare, where mysterious strangers reappear/disappear in daylight, and a frozen sheet of fate forces Starks to face his frosty past. Predicting Starks future, J.K. Simmons gives a wonderfully off-beat,softly spoken performance as Vacaro, whilst William Fichtner tries to make Starks forget about the past as oil-drenched pal Ed Jacomoi. Struggling to get a grip on the fate that has smacked him across the face, Guy Pearce gives a superb performance as Jimmy Starks, thanks to Pearce balancing Starks eye-catching business skills with a dead-eyed,Neo-Noir loner who Pearce brilliantly covers with webs of dread,as Starks see the first sign of snow.
susan21454 This movie did run in the same vein as Memento and The Machinist; the whole feel of the movie was very surreal and you wondered what the outcome would be. I didn't feel quite as much tension as I would have liked, but it still kept me wondering how things would turn out. It portrays how your past can always catch up to you. Guy Pearce did an excellent job.I also have a question about the music in the movie. I have done a search of all the music in the credits, but cannot figure out which song is playing in the background during the bathtub scene. Can anyone tell me what it is?
lastliberal Is it destiny or did you make it happen? Are you going to die regardless of what you do to avoid it, or do you make decisions that result in your death? This neo noir with Guy Pearce (Momento, The Proposition, L.A. Confidential) was well written and exciting from start to finish.Pearce made a perfect sleazy salesman and Piper Perabo (Coyote Ugly) has shown she can do a good dramatic role. I thought she was really good. The story keeps you guessing until the very end. Did things happen because they were destined to happen, or did he choose to be in that place in that time.
Manfrombelmonty What can I say...not much to this one at all. Pretty dull and uninteresting. The actors performances are just OK. The only one that shines in any way is Simmons, but he only has, maybe 3 scenes. I understand that by keeping his screen time to a minimum he retains the mysterious psychic aura he has, but I can't help but feel his talent was wasted. No one else rose above mediocre. The story itself seems like it may be intriguing at the beginning, but then just doesn't go anywhere. There wasn't a single scene in the movie that impressed me or made me feel like I had just seen something special. The cinematography was fairly bland...I mean desert in a washed out sort of sepia...not very inspiring. The story of his childhood pal back outta prison seemed only partially thought out and didn't really add anything to the story, other than making an average 'Twilight Zone' script into a full length feature.Drab.
