Too much of everything

While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.

what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

(Credit IMDb) Laura's expecting. Her husband, Steven's a loving guy but has little time for her. Her mom lives thousands of miles away. Forced to give up on her dreams, she's always been a bit edgy. A C-section drives her over the edge, making her see things in a different light. A creepy babysitter doesn't make things any better. She begins seeing things, trusts no one, as she goes into self-destruct mode. I love psychological thrillers, but this one is very boring. It moves along very slowly, building up to a crescendo to end on a disturbing whimper. I love endings that make me think, but the ending wasn't right. I didn't agree with it all. I wouldn't say I was offended, but it wasn't very appeasing. I also had nobody to root for in this movie. It tries to be a diligent character study, but all it did was annoy me. We don't get any reasoning where Jenny has gone and why she left the house. Elisabeth Shue is very good, but not very likable. Her visceral performance deserves praise, but I wish she had been more sympathetic. I'm sure she did this to collect a paycheck, but it doesn't show. Steven Mackintosh is decent as the estranged husband. Kathleen Chalfant is extremely creepy as the babysitter, giving a performance that is much better than this movie deserved. Final Thoughts: It's slow, plodding and arguably stupid as well. Elisabeth Shue deserves better than this type of crud. 3/10

I voted 10 for this movie. Iam not a film maker, I am a Psychiatrist and Psychotherapist, and I can tell that this is an excellent movie to explain a certain type of psychopathology and to teach as well. The character of Elsabeth Sue shows a very narcissistic and immature women who is not prepared to have a child. This situation generates a big anxiety crisis in Laura. Step by step the director is showing very carefully a change in Laura's conception of reality (despersonalization) until she finally turns delusional and psychotic, and kill her own baby!!!!! The diagnostic Post Partum Psychosis. I think that, to really appreciate this film is necessary to know a little bit of pregnancy complications, and mental health in general, this will permit the audience to understand what is going on this women.

The most boring film of 2007, and one of the most boring films of all time.First Born starts slowly and then...becomes even slower...and then Zzzz. What!? Oh, I'm still commenting. Yes, well what can be said...a seemingly normal woman (Laura) goes completely insane after giving birth to her first child, a girl, if that matters. She is too wealthy to get any serious attention, so everyone lets her aberrations slide, not wanting to confront her, especially those who could be of most help to her.No matter what is done to assist Laura, things just keep getting more and more out of control. Even as her personality is making major changes (she starts smoking) no one stops and says; "Hey, you're acting weird and freaking everyone out, including yourself." Any real help comes too late and still no one is confronting the real issue that Laura is insane, not depressed, insane. So what happens? She buries her baby girl alive (thinking it was a doll), and forgets that she even had a baby. So now she is completely delusional and forever insane. The End.Really. The End.

Can't believe I just wasted my time watching this movie! Stinker, awful, disgusting, waste of time, chaotic plot line (hey, really, NO plot line). Life is short and then you die, don't waste a couple hours on this horse patootey! blech. Elizabeth Shue, you are not a smart woman, this movie clearly proves that. What on earth were you thinking?? Oh, yeah, of course... you were thinking you're over 40 and there are no more starring roles for you. So what? You owe your fans something better than this nothing movie. Well, I suppose you never were a great actress anyway but puhlease!!! pick your roles better. What a terrible waste of time.
