Experiment in Terror Audience Reviews

Moustroll Good movie but grossly overrated
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
Scarlet The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
BatBanks Smith The movie is boring, but Ross Martin is good as the mysterious psychopath who terrorizes Lee Remick. He threatens her t-out the movie to kill her teenager sister. His character made Robert Mitchum's Max Cady in Cape Fear look like a mouse; He should've been nominated for an Oscar that year. It had good performances by the cast; but it not your typical fast-paced suspense.
wmschoell Paging Alfred Hitchcock, who would never come up with an alleged thriller as dull and disappointing as this. The performance of Ross Martin is the only real interest, although Ford and Stefanie Powers are good, Remick less so. This starts out quite well, but it just doesn't hold up. Does not compare at all well to really great suspense films, but they were hardly Blake Edwards' specialty.
lisagcollins58 This movie is one of the few that I remembered from childhood! I watched it on TV and was stunned by the presentation of the characters and the direction of it. The scenes were just creepy, and intense and I just loved it! I was SCARY GOOD, and when I saw it on a late night movie thrill fest I just had to watch it again, since I hadn't seen it since I was a kid. And it made me shiver just like it did the first time. For anyone who is a fan of the film noir genre this is one to watch and enjoy. Turn down the lights, get a glass of wine or your favorite tea, and make sure the doors are locked because this will give you that "Who's there?" feeling.
Zbigniew_Krycsiwiki Almost unbearably tense noir/ suspenser, has an unknown, unseen (and asthmatic) madman threatening to kill an innocent girl's younger sister unless she cooperates and commits robbery. She discreetly contacts police for help, and they attempt to protect her and her sister, while trying to track down this wheezing nutjob.Effectively filmed in high contrast black-and-white, with a great jazz score. Its opening terror scene is tense, sadistic, and surprising; it comes from out of nowhere, just like film's villain. A perfect opening scene to set the tone of the film.Villain is completely obscured in shadows in his first scene as he attacks, threatens, and taunts his innocent victim; his face and body are slowly revealed in his subsequent appearances throughout the film. The more we -the audience- learn of him, the more of him we see, physically, in a technique seemingly borrowed from M. This asthmatic is later learned to be a rapist and killer, who has made it a habit of coercing young girls into committing various crimes for him before he kills them.Bizarre scenes of mannequins in another chick's apartment, followed by her death and subsequent hanging amongst them, is a memorably chilling moment. This film was shown (along with Odds Against Tomorrow, Elevator To The Gallows, Sweet Smell Of Success, and Anatomy Of A Murder) at a small cinema, as part of a mini film festival they called Jazz Scores Of Film Noir; this, and Elevator To The Gallows, were my favourites of the lot.
