Elephant White Audience Reviews

KnotStronger This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.
Murphy Howard I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Josephina Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
kadushke I was curious to see this film because of very different reviews - i love Kevin Bacon as an actor and i could not believe that he would choose to take upon a bad role - thou many here said that this was his worst film ever... So i embraced myself for the worst... And i wasn't disappointed - yes, the film itself is a bit strange and at first it was hard to watch... Thou the key-point of this film is the story the creators want to tell - the dark and hard truth about human trafficking. There is not much glamor in it - a lot of truth is told here - truth we tend to ignore or we just don't think about it... So it's really worth watching. Besides, there is a bit of everything - a bit of action, a bit of fighting and shooting, a bit of friendship and respect... And of course - the mostly discussed topic - Kevin's accent and acting. I think it was brilliant! He nailed it perfectly - because that was the idea - a bit fake, a bit shallow and glamorous at the surface but at the same time - real, loyal and true friend, having his own understanding of the world, values and good vs bad. I am not saying that this film is some miracle - but it's not as bad as a lot of you are saying... Enjoy it!
toddg-473-289818 So Djimon Hounsou, of Blood Diamond fame, wants to take the lead as both producer and lead actor in film designed to raise awareness about human trafficking in southeast Asia? Unfortunately, this movie misses its mark on several levels. First, it is never made clear until the end of the movie when the closing credits are rolling that we are talking about human trafficking rather than prostitution. Only a couple references to enslavement by drug addiction are given, but what is being fought against is still murky at best. In addition, the closing credits describe "children" as those being trafficked, but none of the victimized girls in this movie looked like children to me. They all looked like young adults, probably late teens to early twenties in age. The producers could have cast younger actresses if they wanted to send a clear message about "children." Second, why would Kevin Bacon lend his name and reputation to this amateurish movie? He plays a self described Brit, but until that declaration, I assumed by his accent that he was playing an Aussie. The only thing this movie got right was how the imaginary girl named Mae described Buddhist culture. Reincarnation is a big part of that culture, and her message of how and why people do things in their current life can affect what happens to them later was accurate. This concept explains something I saw firsthand in Thailand, which is that feral dogs are beaten into submission, but well cared for afterward. All of those points aside, the script is weak, the characters are one dimensional, and this movie isn't worthy of its desire to be taken seriously as a morality tale.
pastorniels At first glance this look like the run of the mill action movies. There's a lot of shoot outs, fighting, killing and general violence. The storyline isn't that complicated either. But that is not what make this movie interesting, yet repulsive. The movie takes place in Bangkok, in the red light district to be precise. The prostitution is controlled by mobster syndicates with no scruples and no mercy. Countless numbers of girls, which are mostly underage is forced into prostitution and drugged so the mobsters can control them. This makes them drug addicts and totally depended on their keepers, with no way to avoid the abuse. This aspect is portrait very close in the movie while it in the same time reflect the more religious and spiritual part of Thailand. Even the title "Elephant White" reflects to local religion and believe. So this makes the movie a bit hart gripping because it is not just another action movie.
alanflow-595-891565 At last a film with depth , non stop action, brilliant acting and a plausible plot with real meaning.I rarely give a film top marks but this beats most films. This explores the seedy side of Bangkok yet also shows the strength of the human spirit to show kindness to others. This film is deep, not for the superficial minded, but for those who want action with meaning.Spiritual, inspiring, exciting, gripping, what more can any intelligent film viewer want ?.In a word Brilliant.
