After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.

One of the most extraordinary films you will see this year. Take that as you want.

Blistering performances.

DRAGON WARRIORS is an appallingly bad comedy fantasy flick that seems to have been shot on a green screen throughout. The story features constant poor-quality dragons and monsters animated by rubbishy CGI, alongside damsels in distress, heroic knights, and supporting comedy relief characters. The actors given the most overblown performances ever, performances which would be considered over the top for your average provincial pantomime. Poor old James Marsters ends up being relentlessly hammy years on from his turn in BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, while Luke Perry looks old and haggard. DRAGON WARRIORS truly is a film only for the sadomasochists among us.

I saw this at Dragon Con, and have been looking forward to watching it again ever since. This isn't a movie to watch all alone on your computer. It's a movie to invite a bunch of like-minded fantasy film fans over to watch while playing drinking games. Fantasy tropes abound, as well as out-and-out spoofs of films you should know - and probably do. It's an indie film, not a big budget affair, but if you are a fan of indies, this one is worth your while. Name that original... and have a great time.

I went to the showing of this film at the Chicago Comedy Film festival last evening and I must say I couldn't understand how this film ever got listed as a comedy. Except for some nipple humor and marrying your cousin, it wasn't that funny. It seemed delighted to borrow heavily from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and Princess Bride, which made it way too predictable and trivial. The only funny thing about this was that the film was it was shown on an XBox machine at this theater and I'm sure the projectionist union loved that. Skip this film all together. Watch the Princess Bride instead. That's funny.

I just got back from watching the Salt Lake City premiere of "Dragon Warriors" and I LOVED it! This was a rollicking adventure, and I highly recommend it. It had all kinds of intertextuality, with references to "Star Wars," "The Princess Bride," "He-Man," and even a little "Titanic!" It's a love story with a little sorcery, and a lot of laughter. I can tell you this-- ask your theater to order this movie, and then take all of your friends to go see it. I can't give away too much more of the plot without revealing spoilers, but I think it's a stealth hit in the making. What's not to love when you have beautiful maidens in need of rescuing, an evil wizard with a bad temper and a fondness for his cousin, a couple of brothers who would like to become heroes, and a couple of sidekicks who steal the show?!
