SnoReptilePlenty Memorable, crazy movie
Freaktana A Major Disappointment
Juana what a terribly boring film. I'm sorry but this is absolutely not deserving of best picture and will be forgotten quickly. Entertaining and engaging cinema? No. Nothing performances with flat faces and mistaking silence for subtlety.
japonaliya Sure, there are a ton of awful schlock movies esp. the low budget films from the 50's through 70's. The kind you see on Creature Features etc. But at least they were campy, or unintentionally funny....Unless this is a high school student film masquerading as a professional movie, this has to be on all accounts the worst horror, or at least vampire movie ever made....it is not campy nor funny..actually, it isn't anything I could even explain! The editing (esp. the first few scenes were jarring, the acting was laughable. If there was a plot, it made no sense. The vampire looked and acted like he watched Nosferatu too many times.Spoilers....Did just Dracula's hood protect him from daylight as he was in daylight in many scenes? How did he get from the US to Paris or anywhere the journalists were so fast..and WHY? The journalists go to Paris, then Romania to interview Dracula and his "cult" Hmmm the whole world (on the news broadcasts) knows Dracula is responsible for scores of deaths but no one tries to stop him? The journalists go to find Dracula, but don't bring ANY protection? No stakes, garlic, crosses, holy water...NOTHING.And of course for the most part they find them selves alone in dark places so they are picked off one by one.. From now on i will always check reviews before renting a DVD. Even if it only cost at the kiosk $1.50. I have been robbed!!!
Nigel P It took me a while to realise there are two vampires in this. There are similarities between vampire Corvinus and another, cowled figure who makes several repetitive attacks. Turns out the second fellow is Dracula himself. We alternate between Dracula attacking his victims and the three journos lounging in a room interminably tapping their phones or computer keyboards in silence. It may be true to life but it isn't scintillating viewing. The only mildly diverting character is Hanna (Tina Balthazar), because she brings to the 'role' the most remarkable cheekbones. Chloe Dumans plays Emmy, Hanna's friend, who are joined by Michael Mariconoi as the third reporter Nate. Offering support to the group is Yannis Baraban who plays Xavier.Corvinus, is a Nosferatu-type, played by eccentric performer Yves Carlevaris, whose ill-fitting fangs make his dialogue 95% inaudible. Also, despite cavorting flamboyantly through the streets of Paris in a long flowing cape lined blood-red, he manages to attract no attention from anyone whatsoever. At times, he seems to be investing the role with some sort of camp humour, which might have been worth exploring, whereas the other actors look beautiful but don't contribute anything other than flirting in art museums and sipping wine meaningfully whilst uttering perfunctory dialogue in broken English. There are no characterisations as such, and any hint of a personality is by accident (Hanna and Chloe, researching vampires, find Vlad the Impaler references in a library. Their professional opinion of the dictator? 'A bad ass mother-f****r').When they reach Transylvania, a young girl whom they are interviewing is attacked (in a sequence featuring improbable CGI blood flying from the apparent bitings) and carried away - it actually appears something of interest may be about to happen, but no. The very next scene finds the remaining group tapping cell-phones and drinking coffee once more and we are back to admiring the beautiful scenery. The direction seems happy to allow the camera to float through spacious hallways and rain/snow-flecked streets, making the most of the magnificent architecture – which dwarfs the efforts of the cast without any problem at all. The music, by Mark Yaeger, is very striking. It is as if the budget has been raised for an excursion through these wonderful cities, and some semblance of a movie has been added as a kind of afterthought. There are many strangely contradictory online reviews – either 5/5 proclaiming 'Grate fun', or 'It's good! It's great! It's super!!!!' (the vast majority of them are written in pigeon English) - or 1/5 proclaiming this as the worst film they have ever seen (these critiques sometimes consist of as many as one or two words). I wouldn't wish to cast aspersions about 'Dracula Reborn's' cast and crew writing favourable reviews, but the extreme difference of opinion makes oddly hilarious reading. I'm not sure the film is quite as entertaining, but it has its moments.
kiger-16900 This is a genuinely fun affair – let's not write it off as a cult classic just yet –The Vampire's undecipherable performance is very good in my book. Really enjoyed his performance… The old lady did a master piece acting job. !!! Very REAL! The actors were not known to us but they did an excellent job as did the director, etc. It looks like the film also keeping the present day aspects of the storyline, with blood, twists, and the scary scenes are indeed, very scary. I didn't expect it to be this good. I had to watch it. It is suspenseful - the eerie factor grows as the film progresses. Made me jump pretty good at times, the main Vampire is creepy as hell. I enjoyed the film and hope others will too. I envy Hanna's jacket. You'll have a great time! No pressure, Ha. Ha. Ha.
aidancallaghan I enjoyed the movie! It genuinely amazes me that so many people will go to any lengths and write up rubbish. I honestly thought the movie would be long and boring but it was the complete opposite. Definitely worth the watch. Though it is very dramatic and very well done with a sense of period style. The killings are pretty brutal. Interesting story, and the actors are great. It seemed to pass quickly as it held my interest throughout. The drawback for me is the VFX blood. The violence may bother some folks but it needed to portray the Vampires. I did like how it ended with knowing what happened to all the players. I need to try to get the Vampire's breath at the end as my ringtone.
