Aiden Melton The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Vimacone Throughout Donald's filmography, he encountered a number of critters that got him into trouble. One of the earlier critters was a cute penguin named Tootsie. Disney's penguins, such as Pedro and the PECULIAR PENGUINS were always remarkable, and Tootsie was no exception. The animators always animated them with humor.Animal lovers can potentially find this title upsetting due to Donald's overt hostility to Tootsie's mischief. Disney has taken note of this in recent years and put a disclaimer on the Treasures DVD release. The animators were very effective in conveying Tootsie's intense anguish when Donald is about to shoot it with a shotgun and the viewer will feel this; And the viewer will have a sense of relief at the happy ending. As an animal lover myself, I like to think of this title of having a message to be kind to animals and pets. They may get into mischief, but owners must not get angry and/or hurt them for it. Like MICKEY'S PAL PLUTO and LEND A PAW, I think Disney should have carried that message more outright, assuming that they weren't going for that in the initial release. At least that's what I got out of the short when viewing it.Before WWII, Disney was known for having intense scenes that could potentially frighten or upset children. This is one that parents would want to watch with their children, but it would be a good opportunity to explain the importance of being kind to animals.

Michael_Elliott Donald's Penguin (1939) ** 1/2 (out of 4)Donald receives a package, which happens to be a penguin named Tootsie. Soon Donald is trying to teach him a few things but when he thinks the penguin has eaten his goldfish things turn bad.DONALD'S PENGUIN isn't the greatest Disney short ever produced and it's not even one of the best from the Donald series. If you're a fan of Donald then I'm sure you'll still want to check it out but there's really nothing too special on display here. The highlight is certainly Donald's reaction to thinking his goldfish have been eaten. As you'd expect the animation itself is quite good but there just aren't enough laughs or action to keep the film more entertaining.

OllieSuave-007 In this Disney short, Admiral Byrd ships Donald Duck a penguin from the South Pole. Donald takes the penguin as his pet, but gets angry with it when he thinks it has eaten his goldfish.It could have been all-around adorable cartoon, but the penguin acting as a stuck-up animal at first and eating Donald's goldfish was cause for it to have no redeeming qualities. Donald wasn't even very funny in this one and, save from the nice animation, this is one of my least favorite Donald cartoons.To me, you wouldn't get a good laugh with this cartoon. It might be cute for others, but overall, it wasn't entertaining.Grade D--

Julia Arsenault (ja_kitty_71) Donald Duck is my favorite Disney character and this is one of favorite shorts from the 1930s era of Donald's cartoon career. In this short, Donald doesn't get an ostrich like in "Donald's Ostrich", but a penguin. I have ordered "The Chronological Donald Duck #1" on DVD from Amazon.ca, and this short is on it. Like most theatrical shorts I've watched, it's both cute and funny at the same time.The funny parts is when Tootsie the penguin woke up with a start and slaps Donald on the face. I also love it when ever Donald turns around, the fishes disappear suddenly. The sweet part is when Donald just can't shoot Tootsie, for eating the fishes. And when the gun accidentally fell and blasted the wall, Donald thought the gun shot Tootsie and looks for her. But she was really hiding in the closet, Donald found her and all was forgiven.
