This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

Exactly the movie you think it is, but not the movie you want it to be.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Saw this movie few years back on a DVD. The movie is one time watch for horror fans. Apart from decent direction by Hooper, the film is atmospheric n creepy. I am surprised at the films bad vfx considering that the production company behind this film is Image Nation, a leading production company from UAE. Honestly, the effects were really bad. It ruined the film. The movie is about a middle eastern couple residing in New York. After the death of their new born kid, they r advised by their mysterious psychiatrist to relocate to their native place, Abu Dhabi. The couple move into an apartment in a building which was built on a haunted ruins. The road towards the bldg is empty n the constant fog surrounding the building n the road is kinda creepy. Silent Hill style. Now the building is nearly empty. The door man n the neighbors are creepy. The wife keeps hearing strange voices. Ther is appearance of ghostly shadows lurking around the corridors. Grudge style. The couple meet a bizarre, black-clad, hot neighbor. All this leads to a decent twist in the end.

Perhaps I should stop right now, switch off this laptop, and go play basketball or something. I really wanted to like this film because it's from a country not know for its horror. A lot of other countries (Germany, USA, Finland, France, Argentina, Korea, China, etc) have already proved they can deliver the goods in spades so I thought it'd be nice to see how they do it in the UAE.They don't.And that's a surprise considering they went through the trouble of hiring a well known horror & sci-fi director (Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Lifeforce, etc) and shooting in a land typically known for ravages of war-type films. One of the main problems is Djinn's utter lack of originality. Near empty hotel? Check. Creepy concierge? Check. Rolling fog? Check. Phone which can't get a connection? Check? Car that won't start even though it was working only a minute ago? Check. Somebody doing a slow back up by a window which an errant bird suddenly, and loudly, slams into to make you jump? Check. Hands protruding from the walls? See The Frighteners. Also, the general acting was dirt poor all around. However, it was nice to see a woman with platform shoes being able to outrun a Doberman and what looks like a Bernese Mountain Dog.Did I mention the acting was poor and almost every scene was borrowed? This movie didn't even need to be shot. A couple of film students could just as easily had cut and pasted these scenes from other films and you wouldn't notice the difference.Who that possessed psychiatrist was in New York is a mystery to me. But at least she did use "devil talk" in her voice. That's different, isn't it?

This was a nice change and I loved the movie. Definitely worth watching. If you are a cookie-cutter type of person, this is not the typical American Horror or gore movie. It does have a story line and the actors are good. They are believable. It is refreshing to watch a movie that is not the same thing over and over. This isn't and it is rooted in legend which is awesome because it is not simply American legend. It is more about the story than simply the scare. Don't believe what others have written about it being bad. I think it depends on what people like. It is a good movie. Watch and see!

This is NOT a bad movie. I enjoyed it. It's not a B movie. The acting is decent. The story is awesome. I love those folk stories, the stories that are legends, myths, that have been around so long you wonder if they are true. The production is really good. The direction I esp liked. The ending was great, too. It surprised me, I was expecting the usual Hollywood ending , didn't happen. It kinda freaked me out too. But for hard core horror fans , I don't think you will enjoy this. If you liked Mama, or Sinister, this movie is your type. It isn't gory, no bad cheap sex scenes, or jump scares. This is an old fashioned ghost story. But really cool, because it's an Arab ghost story. I'm part Arab, I am not a Muslim though, but I have wanted to go and see this part of the world for a long time. Obviously, it's too dangerous to visit , and I actually am afraid to go there , just because I'm considered American , and the customs and so on. Islam scares me. But I think it's something in the blood. I also am familiar with many aspects of the culture and it's nice to see something I can relate with, in a way. Something different and mysterious. I didn't like this movie because I'm biased. I liked this movie because it's good and anyone can enjoy it. It is a great and scary legend to make a film about. Very good!
