DJANGO THE CONDEMNED is a dull little Spanish western that has nothing to do with the Django film series. It came out before the original DJANGO and was simply re-titled later. The original title is OUTLAW OF RED RIVER. The film itself sees George Montgomery as a small-time bandit who is also the movie's hero. You see, he's surrounded by even worse characters who think nothing of committing murder and when a prominent opponent is shot dead, Montgomery must turn detective to find the man involved. It's a sluggish plot and one which seems to deliberately test the viewer's patience throughout. There are a few action scenes but they're directed in such a typical way that the viewer can't help but to become bored during them. The characters are more caricatures and the dialogue in the English version appears written to order with no colour or insight. Regular western actor Frank Brana appears in the small role of a bandit.

Can he find the guilty?.This Chorizo Western contains an intrigue in which the starring is the detective to investigate who is the murderer. It's one of the numerous European Westerns anterior to ¨boom¨ Sergio Leone films and follows the USA Western models . It isn't an usual Spaghetti Western ,this one is a cheap Western shot in Almeria (Spain) where during the 60s were filmed several Spanish-Italian Western or in co-production with US. There are action and shootouts but no too much but the little action sequences are effective as the raid on the small town. The protagonist is a famous actor who starred B series called George Montgomery . He was born to Ukranian immigrants and was a heavyweight boxer previously becoming an actor . Besides was a magnificent craftsman and built and designed houses, plus a self-taught artist, creating bronze busts for famed actors . He starred movies around the world and diverse genres : adventures (Watusi,Steel claw) , Warlike (Battle of Bulge, Hell of Borneo) and specially Western (Seminola uprising, Fort Ti, Last of badmen, Great duel in Durango ). The motion picture is regularly directed by Maury Dexter. Rating : Average. This Western could have been a lot worse but that's no reason to watch it.
