Dirty Mary Crazy Larry Audience Reviews

Jeanskynebu the audience applauded
Acensbart Excellent but underrated film
Console best movie i've ever seen.
ThrillMessage There are better movies of two hours length. I loved the actress'performance.
fullbug Smokey and the Bandit just had to be modeled after this movie. Contains all the same elements. Two partners looking to make that one big (illegal) score, a sexy transitory woman along for the ride, a tough sheriff hot on their tail, and a whole lot of crazy driving from the muscle car era.And like the Bandit, this isn't just a car chase movie. It was very well written and produced with an interesting story, excellent cast and character development, and imo, Peter Fonda's best film. Also excellent performances by Susan George and Vic Morrow.Take special note of the superb camera work for all the car chase scenes (very ground breaking). And the light green '69 Dodge Charger is just as eye-catching as the Bandit's Trans Am.This isn't the Shawshank Redemption...but it isn't as mindless as the Duke's of Hazzard either. A classic 70's Drive-In movie that should be on everyone's Watch List.
Leofwine_draca DIRTY MARY, CRAZY LARRY is a film that cashes in on the '70s-era craze for road movies and in particular car chase flicks. This decade saw the likes of VANISHING POINT and GONE IN 60 SECONDS wowing audiences with their depictions of high-speed pursuit, something that this movie is keen to work with. The result is only semi-successful, however, and the reason for its slightly lacklustre playing out is purely down to the script. This is the kind of dialogue that must already have been cheesy and dated on first release, with the characters spouting unbelievable 'counter culture' style lines as they 'stick it to the man'. It makes the whole thing feel incredibly dated and not necessarily in a good way.Still, there's stuff here to be enjoyed, not least another one of those laid-back stoner type performances from Peter Fonda. Watch out for Vic Morrow, chewing the scenery with relish, although you also need to be warned: this film features copious amounts of Susan George, giving the worst approximation of an American accent that I've yet to hear. Imagine Keanu in BRAM STOKER'S Dracula; yep, it is that bad.As expected, the film features plenty of car chases and some good stunt crashes that reminded me of the likes of LIVE AND LET DIE. It's no classic, to be sure, but it's not bad as a fitting product of its era and that ending still packs one hell of a wallop.
Mr-Fusion but it more than makes up for that in sweet road action. One car chase leads to another, bridges are jumped, and there's even a low-flying helicopter chase. And as much as I like Adam Roarke's pensive angst in this movie, the real one to watch out for is Vic Morrow. For the crime that Fonda and Roarke committed (unarmed theft), you've gotta wonder why Morrow would come down on them as hard as he did. His big move in the end (although brilliant) was overly vindictive. What makes this hard- line lawman tick? And that ending's a true shocker that hits me right where I live. But in the end, this movie's a classic. The chases are fun, the stunts are cool, and it's just an awesome ride. And that is one righteous Charger. 7.5/10
roscoelaw I had heard of this movie by title only and finally got to see it. My mistake. This was poorly written, poorly directed and poorly casted. If I was supposed to accept these three as anti-heroes, sorry to disappoint you. I didn't feel for any of them, not even during the introspective walnut grove scene. Peter Fonda was OK. I couldn't wrap my mind around what the other guy was supposed to be. And Susan George... well, I don't know what she normally looks like to make a "best-looking" list but she did NOT look good in that film. Then there's Vic Morrow's character. What the hell? Was I supposed to accept him as some sort of super-cop? He just came across as a dick with nothing to back up the character. And what's with Vic Morrow and helicopters anyway? The dialogue was horrible. It was disjointed and wordy at times. And there's nothing like an abrupt ending. You saw it coming but it was like "BANG!... Done." Chalk this one up to a car chase movie and not a very good one. Take it off your queue list and find something else.
