There's no princess like a space princess, and after this, you will not soon forget Patricia Lafari's leather clad visitor from Mars who lands in Scotland after issues with her cool looking space ship got lost on their way to London. It is quickly revealed that Martian feminists have taken over their planet but are forced to bring earth men to their planet to keep the species going. Combining subtle hints of misandry in Lafari's absolute disgust with the male gender with good old fashioned earthly male chauvinism, this actually reveals a scary future where only one gender has a say in how any civilization is run.With its claustrophobic setting of a Scottish country in, this actually becomes even more tense as Lafari's intentions become known especially after she introduces the Scottsmen to her sole companion, a giant robot with the capacity to destroy anything in its path. An aging scientist gets a first hand look at the space ship's energy source, while a pretty model (Hazel Court) seems to have a mysterious connection to Lafari as if she had escaped from the planet of the misandrists and was being hunted. I could point out all the silly aspects of this British science fiction film, but it actually makes some very important observations about society, science and gender issues. The ensemble takes everything seriously, even if issues established before Lafari's arrival (mainly concerning the presence of an escaped murderer) seem inconsequential afterwards. I had hoped for a bigger bang of an ending, but I guess you can't have everything.

"Devil Girl from Mars" is a rather worse than mediocre piece of 50's SF - a bit special because it's a British production, but neither does it spin a new angle on the "Invaders from Mars" theme, nor is it particularly charming.I could overlook many of this movie's problems - the cheap production design, the simple set, the cardboard characters - even the ridiculous robot (all the more ridiculous because it doesn't do anything the imposing Ms. Laffan couldn't have done herself) - but there's one big problem I can't overlook, and that's the sluggish pace. Humanity's survival is at stake but there's never any urgency, any sense of doom. A group of people trapped in a limited location and fighting for survival - quite a common theme for movies, many of them very good, so you can't blame the small budget or the SF genre - it's simply a script, direction and editing problem.Conclusio: I found this really really hard to sit through. Recommended only for completists of the genre.

It's no use reviewing films like these if you're going to compare them with modern day releases. They are what they are - cheap perhaps but made to make money out of 'less expecting' 1950's film goers.In a world where we can do almost anything with CGI - features like this had to rely on good old model work and actual mechanical effects.There are some real howlers in the script - but that's all part of the charm.The actual flying saucer is a real hoot -"It's like something from another planet!"It's landing is very noisy - so not surprising to find that the sound editor is one Gerry 'Thunderbirds' Anderson (Credited here as Gerald Anderson)In some ways there is a connection with Forbidden Planet. In Forbidden Planet a Starship crew come across a naive sheltered beauty who doesn't quite understand what the Men are really looking for and what she wants.Well here the Devil Girl knows exactly what she wants - and has come to get it!

This film is one of those classic sci-fi movies from the 50s b-movie factory it came out a year after Quatermass experiment. It stars Hugh Mcdermott and hazel court who fall in love with each other. Then the cosmic vixen comes with Chani the robot and her flying saucer the devil girl wears a black leather flying suit and carry's a dinky toy ray gun.This movie is brilliant its set on the Scottish moors in a pub then a spaceship comes with a devil girl with her robot to take men back to mars to repopulate she takes one man back Peter Reynolds who blows the ship up the end thats a long story short. The actors do a good job the robot looks a bit like a kids toy this is one of Gerry Anderson early works.The movies only down full scientific stuff is hard to get your head around it if you don't know about atomic radiation and metals and that stuff which i only know half of.This movie is one of the great 1950s sci-fi movies you can get it on DVD.
