Doctor Hersch spearheads research into the capture and subsequent 'understanding' of 'the vampire' he has named Vlad (although his real name is revealed to be Simon Molinar), but he is killed during the creature's capture and the project is assigned to his subordinate, Doctor Bassett. Bassett then enlists the help of the idealist Doctor Joe McKay who is entirely new to the project and becomes hazardously sympathetic to the prisoner.During the lengthy experiments, the vampire seems compliant, even docile. Simon describes his vampirism as a curse of nature he has no control over; he reasons that his victims are from the less respectable avenues of society, and that is how he elects to justify his lifestyle. His captors cause countless deaths through their various experiments. So who is the true evil here?Originally this film was called simply 'Vampire', about which little is known. It is under the title 'Demon under Glass' that it has proved more widely available. Even as a fan of low budget horror films, I found the first few scenes quite off-putting. The lighting and camera work is immediately blurry and the direction fails to capture all of the action on screen. Whether I got used to this, or things improved once the story had settled into a sedate pace more befitting the nature of the unfolding story, I don't know (probably a little of both).Happily, 'Demon under Glass' proves to be extremely enjoyable. The moral grey area between the 'decent' scientists (who are revealed as anything but) and the 'evil' vampire (who is mostly composed and honest about his condition) is exploited in a compelling script.And yet the vampire is, understandably biding his time. When he learns that once the experiment is over, he will be destroyed, he clearly wishes to escape, which he does. The last we see of him is when he is gleefully picking up a prostitute in a night club, proving that despite being a victim of his own nature, he also clearly enjoys himself.So were Molinar's monologues while imprisoned truthful, or was he just stalling for time so that he could make his escape? Such conclusions are left open in this highly enjoyable film.

this was a very moving story i cried in the middle of it I'm not lying i felt for him the vampire how they used him as a lab rat its true what this film is about we all have to survive in some way and vampires have there own ways to us humans a great film. if you are a love of vampire films then deffon check it out 2 of the main characters have been in Buffy and angel them self's in the pass it bugged me for a while wondering what i had sen mainly the old guy in before who plays one of the doctors he as been in many Si-fi serious es Buffy star trek so even Si fi fans may like this. go watch now and enjoy it this great film VAMPIRES ROCK VAMPIRES ARE GREAT VAMPIRES ARE SEXY VAMPIRES ARE DARK VAMPIRES BITE SO COME BITE ME AND TURN ME NOW

This movie was a lot different from other vampire movies and I think that's what makes it so good. I figured it was about capturing an evil vampire and they do tests on it until it escapes and attacks everyone. Its really about a vampire just trying to stay alive in an unfriendly environment and is tested on by a mad scientist.The idea of a intelligent vampire is brilliant and the plot of how the doctor pleads with the scientist to leave the vampire alone really shows how the "demon" isn't always the creature of the night.It seems the reason this movie got such a bad rap was because its not for the stupid people. You have to be smart and socially aware to enjoy a movie like this.Very underrated movie...7 out of 10

An excellent premise. I loved the whole concept but I have gotta say it STANK! The actors in the leads (Jason Carter and Garett Maggert) are WONDERFUL actors and I hope they get to do some other movie together. However, this movie was worse than the worst B movie. It actually made YOR:Hunter From The Future look good! It should be noted that this independent production was written directed and produced by fans of these 2 actors. It was a first attempt. and looked it. There weren't any production values to speak of. Sorry guys. It should also be noted that at least one of these actors does NOT like discussing his role in it. Acting rather embarrassed to be associated with it.
