Absolutely Brilliant!

I cannot think of one single thing that I would change about this film. The acting is incomparable, the directing deft, and the writing poignantly brilliant.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

Bad found footage from the Philippines 2003...although could have been filmed anywhere. Susan (Anne Gauthier) brings her fiance Ken (DJ Perry) home for Christmas being celebrated in remote Sagard. Loss of power, table moves, spell book, snake cult, people die, terrible footage, worse acting. All filmed by candlelight. Where do they get those candles that never go out or shrink? Not worth the effort. Guide: F-word. Sex. Partial nudity.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I especially appreciated the acting, use of music and that a lot of the elements where off screen and thus left to the imagination. The movie starts by allowing you to get to know the characters more and thus actually care about them. It also shows family life in a very believable way, thus making the movie even more scary. I would recommend this to horror fans. Especially those who like 'old time' horror.WARNING: SPOILERI also loved the use of the camera and TV as characters. END WARNING: SPOILER

I saw this film recently at a private screening, the "final final" version (I think 99 min. long?) in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. I'm not sure about the hype that something like this really happened in Malaysia, but the film delivers on its own. After the story got set up, I was grabbing my seat the whole time. DJ Perry and the Filipino cast was excellent. Plus one great Malaysian actor! Very good! Hooray! If you want to see a film that will scare the wits out of you, this is really it. The "home video" setup made you feel like you were trapped in some dark place, a nightmare where you could never wake up. I had nightmares myself the night I saw it, about people getting chopped up and mutilated. If you check out any horror film this year, see this one!
