Crimewave Audience Reviews

Wordiezett So much average
Stevecorp Don't listen to the negative reviews
Rosie Searle It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Bumpy Chip It’s not bad or unwatchable but despite the amplitude of the spectacle, the end result is underwhelming.
deacon_blues-3 1 hour and 23 minutes of mind numbing nonsense! The jokes have no timing. The acting is way over the top. The gags are tired, and some are stolen from the 3 Stooges!! It's truly unbelievable that so much great talent in Sam, Ethan, and Joel together is responsible for this gob of muck! It was truly painful to see geniuses who have given me so many of my favorite movie experiences over the years combine to produce this hemorrhoid of a film! The two exterminator/hit men really should have worked much faster, and killed everyone in about the first 5 minutes, saving audiences from all the annoyance of actually attempting to resolve the plot lines into a sappy happy ending. Vic and Nancy should have been fried together at the end. That would have been just for inflicting so much bad acting on so many for such an extended amount of time! If you've never seen the work of these three artists before, please don't judge them by this horrible film! Rather, for the Coens, watch "O Brother, Where Art Thou", or "Fargo", or even "Raising Arizona." For Sam Raimi, watch "The Quick and the Dead", "Army of Darkness", any of the Spiderman films, or "Drag Me to Hell" If you haven't seen this hunk of drain clog, just say "No!" To bad films, even when they are made by great filmmakers!
turboxiann Canadian director John Piazs made another film titled Crimewave at the same time and was unable to use the title in the states due to Dantes Crimewave. Its titles have the word "big" awkwardly pop up on the screen. The Piazs film is also a homage to pulp 50s/60s crime dramas as well as the frustration, illusion and apathy the main character goes thru in trying to realize his dream. Despite how depressing the description may seem the film is hilarious and one of my all time faves. Its narrated by the little girl who's parents rent him the attic above their garage. The film contains beginnings and endings of his films. According to the girl Kim he has problems with the stuff in between.Hence why he never finishes his Crimewave films. Piazs even filmed the movie in lavish color. Its a total classic and unfortunately even less known in the states then the Dante crimewave Thu a respected cult film in Canada. See by all means if you can find a copy
Greensleeves This is a fabulously unique film and I guarantee you have never seen anything like it. It's virtually a live action cartoon which proceeds at breakneck speed and is hilarious to watch. It's one of the most 'cinematic' films you will ever see and every scene uses colour, imaginative camera work and scenic design to optimum effect. The only downsides are the casting of Reed Birney in the lead when the part really calls for someone with more charisma. The sense of period becomes very fuzzy and the music score is a little too overpowering and becomes quite wearing after a while. But don't let anything put you off seeing this film if you get the chance because there is so much to enjoy. You will gasp at the sheer inventiveness of it all and Bruce Campbell fans will lap up his appearance here which he plays to absolute perfection.
georgewbinladen I am a huge Coen Brothers fan, a huge Sam Raimi fan, and I love Bruce Campbell as well- but the whole does not always equal the sum of its parts as demonstrated by this movie. Unlike the films that I love by these guys (Blood Simple, Barton Fink, Lebowski, Evil Dead, Evil Dead II etc., etc.,)there is virtually no character development an I developed only a superficial interest in the storyline. Granted there are a few premonitions of the Coen Brothers masterful production, (the carpet scene is cool) But- a few cool scenes don't make this stinker watchable. I ordered a Chinese bootleg and paid $10 shipping just to see it, and it was *not* worth it- take it from me that even if you're a big fan of the directors and actors involved, don't waste your time!
