A gruesome homage to the cult Amicus anthology Asylum, Cradle of Fear unfolds four screamplays all linked by the unspeakable need of an incarcerated child killer to wreak vengeance on those responsible for his imprisonment. Helped by deranged angel Dani Filth, who leaves a trail of charnel house death in his crimson wake, the cannibal convict forces two Goth vamps to endure a one night stand from hell, two tough female robbers to see through each other, an obscenely rich coke-head to chop up more than a few lines and an internet surfer to descend into madness when he uncovers the ultimate web depravity.

Cradle of Fear Audience Reviews

UnowPriceless hyped garbage
Pluskylang Great Film overall
FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
SKOG To the short: The effects are lazy and even funny, the acting are awful (reminded me of those Mexican soup-operas), the script is the worse... not even Dani Filth saved the screen. The only and one thing that COULD have been interesting was the fourth part, the one about the snuff website. I think the whole movie could have been about it, of course with decent acting and effect and WITHOUT Dani Flth (is not even a good singer, and it is worse as a actor). The plot of the snuff-site is good and the conclusion of it is very obvious but still interesting. With some treatment like the movies "Hostel" it would kick-ass.
GL84 Set in London, The Man intertwines four strangers' tales as they seek bloody revenge against others. While he's going around, a detective goes around trying to find an apparent connection to the killings that become associated with an incarcerated rapist. The Good Stor(ies): Story 1-Finding a slew of dead bodies, a detective recounts backward how the victims turned out. When several friends meet up at a Goth club, she takes a mysterious man home only to awake with a concerned state that she thinks is caused from their affair. Spending the night with her, she eventually learns she had been telling the truth all along. This one here is one of the best stories. The incredibly psychedelic imagery is pretty prevalent in here, especially the trippy and down-right freaky sex scene, as the strobe lights going off into the total darkness with the complete inability to notice what's going on. Coupled with the fine nudity and extremity with the actions and it really works. Even the later sequence where they're walking down the street having the usual demonic-faces-no-one-else-sees scene is a lot of fun, which here is hyper-extended for even more chills. The eruption sequence at the end is where it really works well, using a lot of impressive gore to make for some really bloody material. The creature is a little weakly-designed, but it's still pulled off well and is used inside an actually creepy scene, which is for the better.Story 3-Living together, a man and his girlfriend are forced to live with his amputated leg from an accident years back. After meeting with a mysterious doctor, he is able to get a new leg and is ready to begin life again. Going through the usual rehabilitation methods, he is finally able to take back control of where he was, and it soon starts to worry him when he begins having visions of it being taken from him while they're together. This one here plays up the tired cliché of most similar stories, where it might have a life on its own after being attached, but it happens so late that there's really only a few scenes where it occurs, and it's much less chilling when it happens a few times rather than all the time. The atmosphere that creates is really great and manages to make it more entertaining. There's a brutal car crash that has some nice gore to it, including a brutal ending to one of the passengers. The sex scene, for once, is played more erotically and sensual that usual, making it a welcome inclusion. The Bad Stor(ies): Story 2-Sneaking around London, a couple women decide to stop off at a friends' house before leaving. When they find that a stranger is instead sleeping in the house, in a brutal accident both end up killing them. Struck by the accident, they decide to cover it up before it gets out, but once their conscious turns on them, they both try to get out before succumbing to it. This one here is actually pretty decent, but it's mainly hurt by the fact that there's not much going on in it. Despite the nice scene of the girls taking a bath together, there's no other real scene in here that offers up anything interesting. The brutality assaults go on much longer than they should, the gore looks terrible and it really sticks out that there's nothing in here that was needed for it.Story 4-Working for a large company, an employee spends most of his time goofing around online, much to the detriment of his boss. As he decides to continue, he eventually finds a website that allows the visitor to actually kill a person through the internet. As he becomes devoted to the website, his personal life becomes trashed, and he soon discovers a price to pay for attending the site. This here is the greatest disappointment in the whole series, as it should've been great. The plot is great with the different stance on the voyeur offering a real psychological advantage. The gore is brutal, especially the over-the-top dismemberment scenes that play into the voyeur study, and a later massacre sequence where a whole slew of victims are hacked up quite messy and bloody. The segment, though, is just way too long and slow- going, taking way too long to get to the few interesting moments that are here. The CGI is also really terrible, and takes the viewer right out of the scene.Rated Unrated/NC-17: Extreme Graphic Violence, Full Nudity, Graphic Language, animal violence, a sex scene and drug use.
Paul Andrews Cradle of Fear is set in London where police detective inspector Neilson (Edmund Dehn) is investigating the brutal murder of a young woman named Melissa (Emily Booth) which brings back memories of an old case he worked on about a child abuser & murderer named Kemper (David McEwan). As more bodies pile up it seems that hypnotist & Satanist Kemper has been using demonic forces to murder the children of those that helped put him behind bars...This English production was written & directed by Alex Chandon & I simply can't believe some of the positive comments I have read about this seriously crap film, I think Cradle of Fear was trying to be an anthology horror film but the four individual stories suck & it's so badly made at times it becomes hard to watch. Story number one involves a goth girl who has sex with the 'Man' played by Cradle of Fear front-man Dani Filth & then a mutant baby bursts out of stomach at the end & it's over, there's no story here & I wouldn't even call the ending a twist either just some random happening that ultimately means nothing except to have a gore effect. The second story is equally terrible with two lesbian thieves robbing an old man, in the end all three end up dead in a story which is a straight rip-off of the Father's Day segment from Creepshow (1982) just without the character's or cool effects. The third story is a take on the old limb reattachment plot, think the likes of The Hnad (1981) & Body Parts (1991) but substitute an arm for a leg, sure the twist on the tale is amusing at first & probably the films only original concept even though the basic premise is still a rip-off. The fourth & (thankfully) final story warns of th dangers of internet addiction, a guy becomes obsessed with an internet site selling snuff films which they make themselves & by the end the guy comes full circle in a really predictable twist that I saw coming a long, long way off. The wraparound story is also lame & makes little sense, the least said about it the better really. At two hours long Cradle of Filth felt like it went on forever, the character's are poor, the dialogue is poor, the stories are poor, the twists are poor, the pacing is poor & the whole film is a real mess with nothing to recommend it. The single best moment of Cradle of Fear is the moment when Nick runs a tramp down in his car, his wife Natalie says he should have a look, Nick looks worried & nervously gets out of his car only to check his bonnet & say with great relief that there's not even a scratch on it & then they both speed off leaving the guy in the middle of the road. One thing I will say about Cradle of Filth is that the makers tried to fill it with as much gore, sex, depravity, freaks, dwarfs, mutants, monsters, puke, amputated limb stump sucking & kissing & awful rock music as possible. Virtually all the female cast get naked, there's a couple of shower & bathing scenes as well. There are at least two vomit scenes. There's lots of blood including a ripped-out throat, a ripped in half head which is then stamped on, an attempted abortion using a pair of scissors, a mutant baby bursting out of a stomach, people are battered & beaten, stabbed, have broken bottles shoved in their eyes, a guy has his leg cut off, heads are cut off, throats are slashed, guts are rip-out & someone has half their head blown off in one of the films few decent CGI effects. Talking of the effects they are mostly poor & diminish the impact of the gore, it all starts looking a bit goofy & cartoonish with water thin blood & just bad make-up effects. One other really bad aspect of Cradle of Filth are the sound effects which are awful, just listen to the comedy sound effects at the start as Dani Filth is beaten up, I am not sure if it was deliberate but it just sounds goofy & weird.Filmed in London the video quality is awful & my cheap camcorder can produce a better more film like picture quality, it just screams cheap & amateurish. Besides the amount of gore the only other thing going for Cradle of Fear is the presence of Emily Booth who I do like & even though she overacts she at least does try to act. Booth now presents the Horror Channel over here in the UK & they show Cradle of Fear & during her intro she said she never got paid a penny for being it which says everything.Cradle of Fear is a terrible horror anthology with four of the worst, most predictable individual stories I have seen. Usually in these anthology films there's at least on great story but not here. At two hours it's far too long & despite the constant gore & depravity & the wasted presence of Emily Booth this is a pretty awful film.
crossthebreeze3 Check out the film's website, more time was put into making that than in the writing of the script for this movie. It couldn't be more off in it's boasting. Original story? Original? They must have found the script tucked away between the old testament, or face legal repercussion for that bit of horn-tooting. High-end special effects? Come on, I could do better with an Atari 7600 and a jug of earwax. Stylish cinematography? Oh yes, the America's funniest home video look is still a classic. I'm sure they had little money available for this title, so of course the sf aren't really that good, or a bit bad now and then, or just plain hilarious, but it's the story that makes this film a waste of time and money. 4 stories rolled into one and all of them brainless bits of seen-befores and done-already's.
