Paul Magne Haakonsen When I stumbled upon "Cottage Country" I had not heard about the movie, so I didn't know what to expect from it. I took a look at the movie's cover and must say that I was instantly interested in the movie. Then I read the synopsis and saw that Tyler Labine was starring in the movie, so my interest was further peaked. So naturally I decided to give "Cottage Country" a go.The cast in "Cottage Country" was quite good, and they really managed to get together a great ensemble of acting performers, and there was a great chemistry between the various performers. It was really nice to see Tyler Labine again in a comedy much in the same genre as "Tucker & Dale vs Evil". Dan Petronijevic added a great comedy element to the movie with his character. Lucy Punch was really nicely cast for the very odd character Masha. And of course it was also nice to have an actor like Kenneth Welsh show up in the movie."Cottage Country" had a very interesting character gallery to bring the story to life on the screen. And the cast hired to portray the various roles and characters were doing good jobs with their assigned characters. And the brotherly rivalry between Tood and Salinger was just great and resulted in some hilarious scenes.The dialogue in the movie was well-written and very suitable for the characters. And I really liked the Marsha character's dialogue, because she was just so extreme and so out there that it was hard not to be amused constantly.There are some really good laughs to be had from watching "Cottage Country", and if you like comedies with a dark and twisted sense of humor then you will most definitely enjoy and want to watch this movie.The special effects and make-up effects were actually quite good and they served the movie quite well. Now, this isn't a special effects galore like many Hollywood movies ten Writer Jeremy Boxen had managed to put together a very enjoyable story that had some great laughs, some memorable moments, and very likable characters. And director Peter Wellington was doing a great job of telling the story in a great transition from script to screen.This was indeed a very dark and twisted comedy, and it was without a doubt quite well worth taking the time and effort to sit down to watch it, and I am genuinely happy that I did, because I was thoroughly entertained by the movie.

But things go awry with the arrival of Todd's slacker brother Salinger (Petronijevic) and his free-spirited girlfriend Masha (Punch).Tyler Labine in a cottage and someone gets killed? Could this be the sequel to "Tucker and Dale"? Sadly, no. He is cast here as basically the equivalent of a poor man's Canadian Jack Black. A lucky loser, perhaps? Is this romance? Drama? Comedy? Horror? Despite zombie ghosts, it is actually not the latter. Drama maybe, comedy in some parts. And the romance is a stretch.I have no strong feelings about this film one way or the other. A good way to waste time, I suppose, though there are many other films out there that could fill the same time better.

trcmiddleton If you know Macbeth, you can have a lot of fun seeing how the basic plot is lifted from that play. The ambitious woman drives her compliant mate to pursue the unthinkable, and having done so, both are haunted by the horror of their deeds. Mix in a little contemporary hilarity for the times, but you can't deny it's the Scottish play. It would have been cool to have read a few reviews that touched on this delightful parallel. It's like seeing 10 Things I Hate about You and finding a classic plot.I had forgotten the name of the movie, and was searching "movies based on Macbeth" to no avail. I know there was the word cottage or cabin, but beyond that, couldn't think of a single actor's name or anything. Thanks IMDb for documenting everything!

thesar-2 While I already had a distaste for overly spoiler movie trailers, Cottage Country pushed me over the edge. (And just a warning, if you're not into spoilers, like I'm not, this HAS TO HAVE a bare minimum of some, so fair warning. If you're like me, I would just watch this movie first – and not the trailer, and then read my take.)My friend recommended this to me because he knows I have a "thing" for Tyler Labine. Granted, he's a TV-show killer and hasn't made that big of a splash at the cinema – it takes me several movies to get someone to know who I'm talking about when I try and describe him to someone who's never heard of him, but I'm glad that funny (and sexy) beast is still making films.So, that friend asked me to watch the two-minute trailer of a movie I've never heard about before. I got one-minute in, and there's one major spoiler of what's to happen in the movie. I stopped the preview and did watch the movie, but all the way through to that scene which happens at just past the 19-minute mark, I kept expecting it.I am NOT going to ruin it here, as it was for me, but you would never see this coming had you avoided all trailers, plot synopsis or reviews. Sad. It would've been a deep shocker.As for the movie on its own merit and avoiding my irrelevant problem, it's an okay film about a boyfriend/girlfriend couple who, after a stressful work life, take a week out at the guy's parent's cottage in order for him to propose. Sadly, unexpectedly and uninvitedly, his Pauly Shore-type brother and dumb girlfriend crash his plans and decide to have a party at the cottage. The boyfriend, Labine's Todd, is a wimp while his girlfriend wears the pants and it's up to Todd to evict the brother in order to continue with their special weekend.Well, it was a Very Bad Things week of sorts with a slight Hangover. Will Todd be able to bypass the big party, the uninvited guests, his demanding soon-to-be fiancée, that awful don't-touch-a-lady, too-many-questions dude and go back to normal?I will say the movie was well shot, the actors – all of them, gave their all, some of the lines were intentionally funny and the scenery was crisp and nice. But, sadly, the movie wasn't that original, and because of which, you expected a lot of what happens to appear. Also, it wasn't as funny as the dark humor suggests and the movie introduces scenes from a certain American Werewolf from London that honestly had no place. So much so, they were a blatant rip-off.A barely recommendation…if you're a Tyler Labine and good-looking locales fan.
