Annnnnnnnd 'CUTTHROAT ISLAND' isn't one of them... :)Seriously, I really feel that this guy get's a pretty bad rap, but I honestly like some of his films a lot. I really like 'MINDHUNTERS' and a few of his early actioners are pretty good.Anyway, I fully enjoyed this film; I truly can not think of one thing that makes it fall short or diminishes it in any way. I LOVE the soundtrack and the pacing and the MOOD! REALLY like the mood. Most everyone does a decent job in their roles; as some others have said here, Eva isn't exactly setting the world on fire, but, she gets the job done.YES, the story isn't THAT original, except for the premise of Jackson's job, but I really feel that the movie is put together very well and does precisely what it is supposed to do. I also like the fact, without giving too much away, that not ALL of the characters are completely pure either. That gives the film a bit more dimension and realism.I pretty much agree with Monteblondo's review; I think his take is right on the money. So, if you like a nicely put together, yet simple, straight-forward Crime / Thriller, I truly do not see any reason why you shouldn't enjoy this movie.

Directed by Renny Harlin, "Cleaner" is slow moving but only 84 min or so runtime crime-drama. It doesn't brake any ground story or plot-wise, but is fairly interestingly narrated and played by protagonist Samuael L Jackson. There seemed to be too much reliance on showing blood and crime scenes as a grotesque sort of mood or setting tool. That kind wears thin being overused in the movie. However there is a decent amount of character development for Harris, Jackson, and Keke Palmer (satisfactorily playing Jackson's on-screen daughter). The main problem though I had towards the end was supposedly Mendez somehow romantically involved with a Harris character almost twice her age - didn't make sense or hold water. Still the movie manages to set a foreboding mood, and makes good of the locations. Music is serviceable as well. Give it a 6/10

"Cleaner" is an OK picture that didn't need to be made and doesn't need to be seen. In the old days of Hollywood it would have been a serviceable 'B' picture and suffers from a suspect script with a weak ending. I often think writers start with a great idea for a film or a book, then can't figure out how to end it. I first had this thought years ago watching "Harvey" (1950).Interesting idea here is a cleaner of crime scenes gets a call for a job, does his work and then can't find out who called it in to him - and is accused of abetting a crime. Pretty good ,but peters out. Samuel L. Jackson is good, Ed Harris is better in a loopy role. Not essential but a passable time killer.

I think everybody in this was great. Very convincing acting all around. Especially the girl playing Samuel L. Jackson's daughter. She was almost scarily convincing when she finally breaks down over her mother's death and her fears...all understandable, plot-wise.Anyhow, I don't like the rational of the killing at the end, but at least it was the end and did not spoil the rest of this thriller. This was a surprisingly good watch.I did not see it when it came out, but it is a good option for a thriller/mystery.Watch it for the acting and the genre.
