Although it has its amusing moments, in eneral the plot does not convince.

It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.

There's no way I can possibly love it entirely but I just think its ridiculously bad, but enjoyable at the same time.

Cherish (2002): Dir: Finn Taylor / Cast: Robin Tunney, Tim Blake Nelson, Nora Dunn, Jason Priestley, Lindsay Crouse: The title may have significance but indirectly in terms of describing the plot, which may have been inspired by the superior Alfred Hitchcock classic Rear Window. The title may indicate the heroine's love for vinyl music or her obsession of two men, one being a stalker who plasters her photos all over his apartment walls, and the other being a technician in charge of the ankle bracelet she must wear during house arrest. Robin Tunney stars as an office worker isolated socially using music to cope with stress. When leaving a club she is attacked by a stalker, which leads to the death of a police officer when her car swerves into him. The stalker isn't seen, and Tunney was under the influence of alcohol. Directed by Finn Taylor who also made Dream With the Fishes. Tunney holds her own bringing out the desperate anguish of a woman trapped by injustice and fear. Tim Blake Nelson as the visiting officer is really a potential romantic fling, which prevents the character from being more interesting. Nora Dunn is given the standard role of lawyer, and Jason Priestley steals moments as Tunney's obsession. Lindsay Crouse plays a therapist who will attempt to help Tunney get her crap together. Theme regards the things that we should cherish but take for granted. Score: 5 ½ / 10

Generally seeking what independent films can bring to the otherwise homogenized world of mainstream cinema, i came to this film with happy anticipation, especially since Mick LaSalle at the SF Chronicle gave it an exceptional rating: I cannot say I actively disliked it, but i did not like it much.I was put off by the considerable amount of inconsistency in the plot, by the vapidity of the heroine, and by the aimless meandering when the story needed focus; this film seemed like an excellent first effort at the craft of film, crammed with some good ideas (how does one find contentment in a media-driven culture, for instance), but the big-wow suspense of the hidden stalker seemed tossed in to assuage the teen audience, in contrast to an older crowd that might be moved by the main character's dilemma; the film did not gel into a consistent whole, but was an assemblage of some interesting ideas in need of a stronger script and a better editor.

Something about this movie is simply addictive. It seems so real and personal; This film doesn't even have a hint of Hollywood in it. It's not filmed classically, it has moments where you're not sure whether or not you're in the psycho's fantasy, or in Zoe's. There is so much that contributes to this movie. The music, the romance, the thrill, the characters, this movie has it all.The first time I saw this movie, I couldn't get enough of it. I had to see it again. I recommend it for people over the age of 13, and especially girls/women. I felt like I could connect to Zoe and her struggle. Definitely a must see!

I happened to catch this flick when there was nothing else on worth watching. It sounded a little weird, so I thought I'd give it fifteen minutes to see if I liked it. I ended up giving it fifteen dollars, as I immediately ran out and bought it when I finished watching. This movie has all the aspects of movie-making that appeal to me: bizarre and outrageous fantasy sequences that we've all had at some point or another, an almost unbelievably extraordinary situation that this almost unbelievably uninteresting woman experiences, an exceptionally quirky romance, creepy stalker stuff, and moments that made my heart skip a beat. This movie is worth watching for the visuals alone. Unorthodox camera angles, use of lighting, fast-motion film, and almost assaultive colors combine with rather brilliant acting from a colorful but oddly realistic cast. On a more superficial note, Robin Tunney is, as usual, incredibly hot and SO cute as the socially-inept Zoe, who magically transforms during the course of the movie to a smart, savvy, street-wise broad...an odd result from being placed under house arrest for a year. The movie peaks at the end in an unexpected few moments of absolute terror, and I often found my breath catching in my throat in fear. On top of the suspense is the equally unexpected romance between Zoe and her "keeper." A man who appears almost grotesque in his anal retentiveness and boredom, also changes drastically as a result of his interaction with this striking and unpredictable woman.Fabulously written and filmed, Cherish is at once suspenseful, romantic, hilarious, terrifying, and artful. Give this a chance and an open mind, and you may find a new addition to your movie collection.
