Cell 211 Audience Reviews

Platicsco Good story, Not enough for a whole film
Gutsycurene Fanciful, disturbing, and wildly original, it announces the arrival of a fresh, bold voice in American cinema.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Rexanne It’s sentimental, ridiculously long and only occasionally funny
Fella_shibby Cell 211 has some refreshingly genuine unexpected twists and developments that keep you pretty much hooked, from its opening scene to its conclusion. Seen it 5 years back. Saw it again last week. The action starts immediately and the characters are build through out the movie. There are a few flashbacks. Luis Tosar (Sleep tight, Miami vice) as the leading prisoner is just amazing, his voice is so deep. The lead actor Alberto Ammann acted well. This thriller is so intense, but without blood or extremely violent scenes. It has good dialogs, non predictable climax, its actually quite different. The whole movie is intense, there is no time for to be bored. The acting is good, direction by Daniel Monzón (The Kovak Box) is good, editing was perfect.
CinemaClown Powerful, provocative & downright intense from the first frame to the last, Cell 211 (also known as Celda 211) is a viciously crafted, grippingly told & strongly performed prison film about loyalty, respect & codes that dictates the life of inmates behind bars and also works as an interesting meditation on corruption both inside & outside the prison cell. The story of Cell 211 follows a newly appointed prison guard who, on his tour, is left behind in an empty cell by other officers when a prison riot breaks out. Aware of his predicament & the brutal environment he's in, he pretends to be one of them in order to survive the ordeal and gets acquainted with the inmate leading the rebellion, who takes him under his wing.Co-written & directed by Daniel Monzón, Cell 211 is crafted with nothing held back as the main plot surfaces minutes into the story and from there on, the tension soars through the roof as the film becomes increasingly violent but at no point does it put its characters aside to revel in prison brutality for the two leading characters remain its main focus from start to finish. The prison environment is brilliantly created and the chaos & cruelty that explodes on the screen is effectively captured through the dynamic but expertly controlled camera-work. Its 113 minutes of runtime simply flies by, thanks to its cut-throat editing. And what adds even more fuel to its aggressive tone is the fierce performances put in by its two leads plus the contribution by its supporting cast is no slouch either. On an overall scale, Cell 211 is a fabulous piece of potent filmmaking that takes a no-holds- barred approach with its content and thanks to its ferocious direction, razor-sharp script & stellar input from its cast, delivers an experience that's thrilling, thought-provoking & wholly satisfying. One of the best films of its year, one of the finest examples of its genre, and one amongst the most underrated works of 21st century cinema, Cell 211 is worthy of your time & money. Go see it.
KineticSeoul This is a very well done prison movie and although they had a low budget, they managed to pull off a memorable movie. It kinda reminded me of the movie "Felon" which is also a great prison movie. I like these kind of stories where the protagonist is caught up in a situation way beyond what he is prepared for even if it's by accident (as long as it has a good enough script). And this movie flourishes in so many manners, it's not a entirely believable movie and some parts psychologically doesn't make a lot of sense. But it's still enthralling and enthralling from start to finish, and you can tell despite the low budget they did the best with what they had. The plot is about when a prison riot starts and things just go haywire, but one of the inmates is actually a prison officer that gets caught in all the chaos. And needs to act and prove he is one of the inmates in order to survive. This story and direction is actually quite intriguing because I heard stories to people trying to act crazy and sadistic or keep up a front in order to survive in the prison environment. And it's just cool to see how a inmate does the things he does in order to prove he is one of them. The acting is also good for the most part and when it comes to the plot, it makes twist and turns that I just didn't really see coming. Especially the climax, it's actually quite different from most Hollywood movies. A bit more intensity, chemistry, development between the two main characters and if it was a bit more cleverly crafted this would have been one of the best prison movies out there. Sure it borrows certain elements from other prison movies, but it has far enough originality that makes it really stand out from the rest. My only main complaint is the parts with the protagonist and his wife drama (it just isn't done very well and seems to drag when it comes to the momentum of this story). This is still a enthralling and for the most part entertaining prison movie that keeps building when it comes to it's momentum until the unexpected climax.8/10
kynick2 I have to admit that I am an American that loves films and increasingly the best females I've seen over the last decade or so have mostly been NON-American films. This film was great in so many ways. It was captivating from the opening scene and gave me a ride on the emotional train. I had hoped for a different ending for the protagonist...down to the last few minutes but it was not to be and the reveal in the cell (what he wrote on the wall) revealed so much. This was a really good film with more than it's share of powerful moments. There were also some important political leanings in the film that I'd imagine speaks to the heart of prison conditions all over the world. Sadness, hope, despair, moments of joy and bliss, this movie had everything you could ask for. Do yourself a favor and watch it.
