bkoganbing The Carry On troupe in Carry On At Your Convenience take on management/labor relations in a toilet factory. Kenneth Williams is the owner of a plant that manufactures bathroom accessories, toilets, sinks, bathtubs. His designer of these products is Charles Hawtrey and the plant foreman is Sid James. Given the subject matter there are more chances for scatological one liners than is normal even for a Carry On movie. This is after all a necessary industry. Can you imagine our lives without these devices?Williams gets an order from a rich Arab sheik who wants 1000 special toilets for his thousand wife harem and he wants it with cold and hot running water. Hawtrey designs one and production goes in immediately.That brings management into conflict with organized labor and the head of toilet workers union played by the officious and mother dominated Kenneth Cope. He's the kind of guy who gets off asserting any kind of authority he has. As shop steward he's forever calling for walkouts and strikes on the least little provocation. Funniest moment for me was when the workers go on holiday leave in Brighton and the hotel can't serve them because they're kitchen workers are on strike. What a moment that is for Cope to see what it's like with the shoe on the other foot. Sid James makes the most of it.In fact at the very end of the film Cope is shown to have learned his lesson thoroughly.Labor and management really do come together in the end. A really funny entry from the Carry On series.

Tweekums Set in the seventies when the Carry On films had started to get smuttier one would have expected a film set in a toilet factory to be full of toilet humour; thankfully there is surprisingly little of it; instead it actually aims at political satire! Set in W. C. Boggs toilet factory; stereotypically bolshie shop steward Vic Spanner is keen to call a strike at the drop of a hat and with the workforce striking more than they are working it is little wonder that the business is losing money. It looks as if it will have to close until they receive an order for a thousand bidets... that should rescue the company till Vic starts a demarcation dispute over who fits the tap/flushing mechanism; even though the workers involved aren't bothered everybody is forced to strike and they don't return to work till the day of the works outing! Of course it wouldn't be a Carry On film without romantic subplots; Vic and the Lewis, the boss's son, are both chasing after the attractive tea girl Myrtle; Mr Boggs' secretary is clearly infatuated with him and works foreman Sid Plummer and Chloë Moore, his neighbour and fellow worker clearly have feelings for each other despite being married; although judging by their spouses it is hardly surprising.As this is one of the later Carry Ons I'm surprised it seemed to have dated far more than many of the older ones; I suppose it is because the era of bolshie shop stewards calling strikes at the drop of a hat are long gone as are the days when taking a girl to a dirty movie followed by a meal served by waitresses in bunny costumes was considered a classy date... although judging by her reaction I guess is wasn't then either! The early part of the film was a disappointment but once they went on the works trip to Brighton things picked up and there were a few genuine laugh out loud moments. Most of the regulars perform well although Hattie Jacques was wasted as Sid's wife as the whole subplot featuring her and the budgie picking winning horses just wasn't funny. The love triangle between Vic, Lewis and Myrtle provide a few laughs although neither of them deserved her so it seemed a shock when she ended up getting a quickie marriage to one of then! Over all this is a mid-ranking Carry On film with enough laughs to make it worth catching on television if you enjoy the series.

w22nuschler This is one of the Carry On's that is perfect. Cowboy and Jungle are the only ones that can beat this one. I cannot believe how this only rates a 4.5 on the IMDb rating. Every one in this cast is perfect. Sid James and Kenneth Williams plays the head of a toilet company. Richard Callaghan plays Kenneth son who is the manager of the plant. He is very good here. He is again chasing the perfect Jacki Piper who plays the daughter of Sid. She also works at the plant and serves the food. Joan Sims plays one of the workers. The two lead workers are played by Bernard Bresselaw and Kenneth Cope. Kenneth almost steals the show as a worker who is always trying to get everything for the workers, even when they don't really care about it. It is refreshing to see a movie that exposes the down side of a union. Everything made no days just bashes corporations and does not give the other side of things. I am a worker at a large company and I think I am treated fair and have good benefits. Kenneth forces the workers to go on strike with him and all go home for the day. Sid is married to Hattie, but he like Joan. Kenneth goes home to his mother who is upset that he went on strike. He leaves and follow Jacki and Richard who go on a date. He ends up ripping off the bottom of her dress as she walks off in anger. Jacki has a cute little butt. The workers strike again and all of them go to Brighton for a fun day. This is my favorite part of the film. Jacki Piper looks so sexy wearing a red striped top, a cute red hat and the shortest jean shorts I have ever seen. She hangs out with Vic to make Richard Jealous. They make their way to the pier to have some fun. Sid James also looks very cool in his outfit. Richard finally corners Jacki and asks her to marry him. She accepts and he beats up Vic. The scene where Jacki runs off with Richard is worth rewinding just to see her cute little butt in those short shorts. The next day we see them in the hotel married and we get some glimpses of Jacki taking off her outfit. She looks so hot in her little bra and panties. Back at the plant, Vic's mother and the other women force them to go back to work. Vic meets a girl who is going to start working with him and he decides to stay working. Richard and Jacki return to the plant to stop Kenneth from selling the plant. The final scene has Vic deciding to cope with a problem instead of striking. I really like this film. It has such a nice flow to it and the highlight is the scenes at the pier and the outfit Jacki Piper wears. A definite 10 out of 10.

paul-johnson107 Well the team have done it again haven't they! What ever possessed them to make a comedy film based around lavatories i'll never know but who cares? Carry On at your Convienience is packed full of fantastically funny gags, there's the usual cast all together causing mischief down in Brighton on the annual works outing: Sid James as foreman Sid Plummer, Hattie Jacques his wife Beattie Plummer, Kenneth Williams as W.C. Boggs, owner of the factory, Joan Sims, Bernard Bresslaw Charles Hawtreyetc. They are joined by newcomers to the series: Richard O Callaghan, who plays Bogg's Son Mr Lewis, Jacki Piper who played Sid and Hattie's daughter Myrtle and of course leader of the strikes at W.C. Boggs & Sons, Kenneth Cope who plays Vic Spanner, they are supported by wonderful comedy actors such as: Renee Houston, Margaret Nolan etc.A wonderful carry On, ready for the next one, hopefully it will be just as funny so CARRY ON!*
