Bunraku Audience Reviews

Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
ThedevilChoose When a movie has you begging for it to end not even half way through it's pure crap. We've all seen this movie and this characters millions of times, nothing new in it. Don't waste your time.
Allison Davies The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Lucia Ayala It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
steeledanton I really thought that the other review was helpful and instinctively sums up the interesting aspects of what cpould have been, and thats exactly what videos are for, I think a Nine Inch Nail video could have been more interesting and though RONIN47 came out Later, and smokes its competition, I am most upset with my ERNST to see this film, which while slowly fading away in a realm of other studly stars, like That cat in The American pie series that co stars alongside the ROCKJOHNSON (again) and Sara Michelle gellar, the most disappointing ending ever, whereas, what i do Totally remember about watching this was: Woody harrelson was in another movie, 7 psychopaths that I watched right after this one while staying at the Suburban lodge in Jacksonville Beach fl.
bowmanblue I had no idea what this film would be like before I watched it - I saw it was sci-fi and watched it anyway. During the (most impressive) intro, I saw just about every Hollywood name I ever knew mentioned. It has quite an impressive cast.Set in an indeterminate timeless point in the future where all firearms have been outlawed and the gangs rule the streets, a couple of strangers decide to take them on. Nothing hugely original in the story; I think the cast signed on because of the way it was filmed. It looks amazing. Maximum points to the lighting guys and the set designers - at first I thought it reminded me of a living computer game, however, about half way through it, I changed my opinion to more like a graphic novel. All the cast seem to be enjoying being in an 'arty' flick, but just sort of mumble their lines. These (slightly over the top) dialogue sequences are intercut with a few fight scenes which are okay as they go, but nothing you haven't seen before.Yes, it all looks great - every scene is a visual treat on the eyes. There just isn't much more to it than that. I don't know what it was aiming for. Some scenes are downright comical (intendedly so I'm guessing?), others are way too up themselves and serious. It's probably a great film. I enjoyed it at first, but it got a little old a little too soon. Serious art-house sci-fi fans only. Perhaps the failings are on my part?http://thewrongtreemoviereviews.blogspot.co.uk/
skee_livevil This film is a great mix of Sin City meets Scott Pilgrim vs. the World meets Kill Bill. The story isn't half bad. It's a sort of homage to the spaghetti westerns in the sense of 2 strangers rolling into town controlled by a gang, mysterious backgrounds, mysterious-esque intentions (as the film progresses, you can draw more & more conclusions as to this point), high action scenes, some dry humor....all in all it was a good film. I will say tho, the visual styling & cinematography are really the major highlights to it. Even if the storyline completely bland (which it isn't, by any stretch of imagination), it would still be well worth the watch just to see that cinematography. I really liked the movie, in all aspects, and fully intend to hunt down a copy of the DVD/blueray.Also liked the cast, especially the leading roles played by Hartnett, Harrelson, and Gackt. Pearlman and Demi Moore weren't too bad, but I do think they could have played it a bit better. Not revealing the storyline, I think Demi came off a little too sulky & petulant, and Pearlman could have embraced his character with a little more.....iono a good word for it.....malevolence perhaps? I liked Kevin McKidd's character much better than I liked Pearlman's. Again tho, don't take that as any major negative. I definitely give this movie a 9/10 imho. Reading the critics reviews, I really feel this is another example of detached, overly-judgemental, pseudo-posh critics giving a bad review to something that deserved better, just because they're comparing it to an unrelated movie/genre. That, or they just plain didn't get it.
nale2221 After sitting through endless thralls of Hollywood blockbusters, it's nice to see something a little different. To credit the naysayers, yes, the plot is a tad cliché, yes, action could have been better, but these hardly distract from the experience. The comic book style is amazing. To the stupid git who said "the sets of paper cut outs done by a four year old. That's not art," you're an idiot; of course it's art. If you think you can do better, make your own damn movie and present it to Steven Spielberg. But I digress. Great fight scenes, good blend of humor, and something very different from what we normally see. If at all a fan of comic books, superheros, or martial arts films, or just visually striking movies in general -- hell, lets throw Okami in there -- then you will love this movie. A-
